The Stephanie Meyers film, “Twilight” dominated the box office this weekend taking in $70.55 million which is the best opening weekend for a film this year since the release of “The Dark Knight” back in July with $158 million. Last week’s winner, “Quantum of Solace” slipped to number 2 with $27.4 million. Twilight is the first of a group of planned sequels. Originally,studios such as MTV Films and Fox Atomic had passed on the movie giving independent studio, Summitt Entertainment a shot at it which I’m sure they’re very happy about.

According to Daily Variety about 75% of the audience were female reflecting the huge popularity of the book with females. Summit Entertainment is very excited about the success and announced that they are already planning the sequel to the film which is about the second book in the Twilight series entitled, “New Moon”.

Twilight also took a huge bite out of the audiences of other top films out right now such as “Quantum of Solace”,”Bolt”,and “Madagascar 2″.
