The new Christmas comedy,”Four Christmases” starring,Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Duvall, Jon Favreau, Mary Steenburgen, Dwight Yoakam, Tim McGraw, Kristin Chenoweth, Jon Voight, Sissy Spacek came in at number 1 this weekend with $46.7 million in 5 days and $31.7 million over the 3 day weekend.
In the movie Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon play an unmarried couple,(Brad and Kate) who are snowed in from taking their planned exotic Christmas vacation. Now they must settle for the usual Family-Centric holiday which they happily avoided in the past. Out of obligation and unable to escape they must make four different trips to visit four of their different relatives and join in their festivities. They find childhood fears raised,adolescent wounds reopened,and their future relationship in danger.Brad can’t wait until it is finally over and can get away from all his relatives and Kate is beginning to wonder if their families’ crazy choices aren’t so crazy after all.
It turns out that America was looking for a little comic relief over the holidays and in tough economic times, this movie fit the bill.” Twilight” came in at second place with $39.5 million over five days followed by “Bolt” at $36 million.
