“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” TV Show brief overview : The character and the concept of the show was originally created by Joss Whedon back in 1992 as a feature film that starred Luke Perry and Kristy Swanson, but didn’t do very well mostly because Joss didn’t have full creative control over the casting and outcome of the film. So it received mixed reviews. Then in 1997 Joss was able to come out with what we now know as the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” television series which he has indicated was much more close to the version he invisioned than the 1992 Movie version. The tv show first aired on the WB in 1997 (now the CW) network until 2001. Then it moved to the UPN ( now also the CW) network when they offered the show more money.
The story told of a girl or chosen one in every generation who would stand alone against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer. In this generation, that girl was Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar). Hence the name, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. Throughout the series run of the show we would however, see two other slayers, Kendra and Faith (Eliza Dushku). Buffy died for a short while, but then got revived in season one so Kendra was called. Then when Kendra was killed, Faith was called. So there were always two slayers from that point on,Buffy and Faith.
The show was very successful and continued to go on for seven seasons, and only ended because Sarah Michelle Gellar wanted to pursue her movie career. After her decision, Joss decided to end it because he couldn’t see doing “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” without her amongst other possible reasons. The show aired from March 10, 1997 – May 20, 2003.
