Zac Efron Dances His Way Out of ‘Footloose’ Remake

According to “The Wrap” Zac Efron told Paramount studios that he is no longer interested in doing another musical at this point in his career. He had script approval on the movie, and used a rewrite on the screenplay as a loophole to get out of his contract. There were a lot of people who had been working on the “Footloose” project since last July, and they were all very shocked when they got the news. Even though Zac is out of “Footloose”, Paramount still wants to go ahead with the film because they ‘ve wanted to see a remake of this film for a long time, and feel confident that their people, Kenny Ortega, Neil Meron and Craig Zaden can make it work.

I’m not sure who’ll they’ll get to replace Zac Efron, but I do think he would have been the main attraction to the film. I’ve also wanted to see a remake of this movie, but I was also totally looking forward to seeing Zac play the lead role also. Most of Zac’s success has been in musical roles with the “High School Musical” franchise and the 2007 musical “Hairspray” remake. He’s now looking to take on more serious roles, and will do so in a film called ” Me and Orson Wells” that was supposed to be released in 2008, but for some reason it didn’t. He’ll also be in the upcoming comedy “17 Again”.

I don’t know. I think this “Footloose” deal would’ve been an opportunity for him to make his name even bigger especially since it would have been associated with likes of Kevin Bacon. Oh, well . The new “Footloose” was scheduled for a 2010 release date, and had a budget of well over $20 million. I guess only time will tell what will become of it. I personally think that he shouldn’t have bailed on it . It sounds like there were other people involved in his decision, encouraging him to drop it, I bet.
