The original movie wasn't well-received, something that was a strike against the TV show when it initially debuted. It triumphed over that stumbling block because of the talented writers and directors, and the phenomenal actors, in the cast and crew. Take them away and you don't have anything. If they're very lucky they'll assemble a talented cast and crew, but to the existing fanbase, the film will at BEST be a bizarre homage to the series and nothing more. And that's at best.
