Michael Jackson’s Death Drives His Music To The Top
According to reports, sales of Michael Jackson’s music drastically went way up following his death. According to Billboard, Michael sold over 415,000 copies of his albums this past week which include “Thriller” and “Off The Wall”.
His greatest hits compilations entitled “Number Ones” and “The Essential Michael Jackson” rose to the top of the charts with sales of 108,000 and 102,000. “Thriller” followed with 101,000 copies sold. However, they will not appear on the Billboard 200 due to them being catalog releases ,or albums that are more than 18 months old that have fallen off the top half of the Billboard 200 charts.
He reportedly broke chart records which include the first time a catalog release outsold a Billboard 200 No. 1,and he set records for the hot digital songs chart which has 25 of his songs that made the charts.
Also he has six albums that made the top ten on the Digital Albums charts. He holds nine out of 10 spots on the Top Pop Catalog Albums charts. It’s reported that most of his fans hit the stores after learning of his death,and bought his albums, driving his old hits back up the charts.
