MTV reports that popstar Rihanna tattooed a few of the tattoo artists at “East Side Ink” in New York on Wednesday July 1,2009. However, apparently what she was doing is illegal.

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene told MTV on Thursday that someone is investigating the case. The Depart made a statement, saying, “Only licensed tattoo artists can administer tattoos in the city according to the City’s Health Code. We are sending someone to follow up on this.”

It’s been reported that if the department decides to press charges against Rihanna for tattooing without a license, she could face three misdemeanors. The penalties could be $300 for the first offense, $500 for the second,and $1,000 for the third offense.

Also “East Side Ink” could be facing fines as well, if they decide to open an investigation. The owner of the tattoo place said they were just having fun,and it was funny and cute.
