Haha. Hollywood is not racist. The first Green Lantern was Hal Jordan (a white air force pilot). Then Guy Gardner (a white Ex-Football star) was relegated as his backup.(Both had an equal chance of obtaining Abin Surs ring but Hal Jordan was closer). Then it was John Stewart(a black Marine) was chosen as Jordan’s backup after Guy was hit by a bus. Then it was Kyle Rayner (a white freelance artist). All four are active in current continuity. If u want to be technical u could say Alan Scott was the first, however he and his daughter, Jade, do not obtain power from OA but from the Starheart so I usually don’t count them as regular “Green Lanterns”.

if we are going to pick it apart the first green lantern was purple . just make it a GL corp movie then there can be no real arguments. and we wont have to ask “GL what have you done for the black skins?”

John Stewart was an Architect and veteran U.S. Marine. There was also the first Green Lantern, Allen Scott, who started out as a train engineer. Hal Jordan was just the more famous/popular. They’re using John stewart in the Justice Leage movie comming out in 2011

Hal Jordan is a white test pilot back in the 50′s to 60′s era. Then there was John Stewart, black: not sure what he did for a living. Then there is Kyle Rayner, a young white free lance artist in New York. Learn your GL’s before you go blasting out at Hollywood.
