A new sci-fi thriller movie entitled “District 9″, is set to hit the theaters this weekend. Distributed by TriStar Pictures (Sony), it stars : Sharlto Copley, and David James The movie trailer (below) looks pretty interesting.

The movie is about aliens who arrived to Earth about 28 years ago,and humans were waiting for them to attack or to get huge advances in technology. Neither of those things happened because the aliens were refugees,and the last survivors of their home world.

As the world argued over what to do with them, they were put in a makeshift home over in South Africa called “District 9.” Eventually control over the aliens was contracted out to a private company who were uninterested in the alien’s well being.

The company tries to find out how to make the alien’s weaponry work so they can make huge profits,but they fail because the weapons require alien DNA. One of the operatives for the company named Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) ends up contracting a virus that changes his DNA.

So he, himself,eventually has to hide out in District 9 when he becomes hunted and friendless.

District 9 hits the theaters on Friday August 14,2009
