CW’s ‘Supernatural’ Is Set To End After Season 5, But

Oh, yes and there is a big but. Michael Ausiello over at EW has reported that Eric Kripke said that CW’s “Supernatural” show is set to end Next May after season five is over. Kripke stated, “I did set out to tell a five-season storyline.Quite frankly, I never expected the show to make it to five years. But now that we’re in our fifth year, I have every intention of ending the story with a bang and not drawing it out or watering it down.”
Now, for the big but. Kripke said that would be the end,but only the end to that particular chapter, meaning he wouldn’t mind starting a new chapter in the story. He stated, “I’m looking at this season as the last chapter in this particular story. That doesn’t mean there can’t be a new story. Buffy did it. The X-Files did it. You close a chapter on a big mythology storyline and then you begin a new one.
One of the things I like about this show is we don’t draw out mysteries endlessly. We’ll answer a bunch of questions this season and then pose some new ones next season.”
One more problem abounds the show’s life beyond season 5,is there is not yet a deal in place for a possible 6th season, and Eric Kripke said he didn’t know if he’d been involved in a season 6. He stated when asked, “I don’t know. I’m going to cross that bridge when I get to it.”
The good news is that it is way to soon to tell. I’m guessing that if season 5 does really well, then the CW would most certainly look for a way to keep the show alive. Only time will tell. In the meantime, make sure you tune in all season, and cross your fingers.
The 5th season of “Supernatural” is set to premiere Thursday September 10,2009 at 8pm central time on the CW.
