Mackenzie Phillips Says Dad Was A Good Man, Despite Incest Claim

According to Access Hollywood, Mackenzie Phillips defended her father John Phillips of “Mamas and the Papas” 60′s band on NBC’ “Today” show,this morning. She said that he was a good man despite her claims that he had incestuous sex with her for ten years starting at the age of 19, in her “tell all” book entitled, “High on Arrival.” In the book,she also claimed that he shot her up with drugs on a regular basis.
On the “Today” show, she said, “It was “a very permissive time and a very rock ‘n’ roll world and pretty much anything went.” Her father “did the best he could.” On the show, she also said that she is now drug-free.
She also commented on how the usual instinct in a situation like this,it to protect the abuser. She stated, “The instinct is to brush it under the table. The instinct is to protect the abuser.”
She said her book is also a way to help other incest victims deal with their problem. She stated, it is “a voice for this large community of incest survivors that don’t know where to go or what to do or how to talk about what happened in their lives.”
