According to the Huffington Post, Director Roman Polanski was arrested by the Swiss police yesterday, when he flew in for the Zurich Film Festival. He’s reportedly under arrest for having sex with a 13 year old girl named Samantha Geimer back in 1977.

Now, he will possibly be extradited to the United States. He was apparently going to receive an honorary award at the festival,but the police arrested him at the airport. They report that the Swiss Justice Ministry stated that the U.S. authorities have been seeking to arrest Roman Polanski around the world since 2005.

They say that Polanski fled the U.S. for France back in 1978,which was a year after he plead guilty to having sex with the underaged girl.

They also report that the ministry spokesman Guido Balmer stated, “There was a valid arrest request and we knew when he was coming.That’s why he was taken into custody.”

Polanski claims that he arranged a plea bargain with a now-deceased judge,and then the judge reneged on it.

The victim of the crime, Samantha Geimer said that she sued Polanski,reached an undisclosed settlement,and just wants the case to be over. The United States now has 60 days to file a formal request for Polanski’s transfer.
