Sheriff Alderden Says Balloon Boy Incident Was A Hoax

Sheriff Jim Alderden now says that the balloon boy incident that occurred a few days ago,was a hoax, according to Access Hollywood. He had originally stated that they had no reason to believe it was a hoax, the other day,but apparently he’s changing his story, after further investigation. The Sheriff stated that Richard and Mayumi Heene “put on a very good show for us, and we bought it.”
He went on to state, “We believe that we have evidence at this point to indicate that it was a publicity stunt done with the hopes of marketing themselves or better marketing themselves for a reality television show at some point in the future.”
He said that no charges had yet been filed, but that he is expected to recommend charges of conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, making a false report to authorities, and attempting to influence a public servant.
They report that the more serious charges carry a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $500,000 fine. Alderden said that all the three boys knew about the hoax, but likely won’t face any charges, since they are too young. The oldest boy is only 10 years old.
Alderden said interviews with the parents yesterday resulted in enough information to get a warrant to search the house. He said they were looking for computers, emails, phone records, and financial records.
