Marcus Jordan Puts UCF $1.9 million contract in jeopardy over wearing his father’s Nike Air Jordan shoes, according to the Chicago Tribune. Marcus Jordan is the 18 year old son of the Legendary NBA superstar, Michael Jordan.

They report that the UCF promised Marcus that he would be able to wear the Nike Air Jordan brand of shoes for the Knights’ basketball team this season.

However, this is turning out to be a problem, since the UCF has an exclusive $1.9 million contract with Adidas, which requires all coaches and athletes to use the company’s shoes, apparel, and game equipment. Now, there seems to be a conflict between the UCF and Adidas because of Marcus Jordan’s request.

Marcus said that Adidas told him it wouldn’t be a problem. He stated, “When I was being recruited, we talked about it. They said they had talked to the Adidas people and it wasn’t going to be a problem. I think everybody understands how big of a deal it is for my family.”

Now, they say there is a conflict with the UCF which has strained their business relationship and current contract renewal negotiations. The UCF’s current contract with Adidas expires in 2010.

An Adidas spokeswoman, Andrea Croso said that there is a dispute, and they are currently reviewing it. She stated, “There is no compromise and the contract is currently under review. We are in negotiations for a future relationship regarding the broader UCF athletic program. What I can say is that these relationships are based upon agreed deliverables for both parties.” ,
