Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield will leave CW’s “Melrose Place” in January, according to Michael Ausiello over at EW and Access Hollywood.

They report that they will be exiting the show,following the conclusion of the “Who Killed Sydney?” mystery story line in December.

Apparently Ashlee always knew it was coming,as she said that she always knew it was coming to an end,but it was a thrill to have the opportunity. She stated, “Having the chance to play Violet on ‘Melrose Place’ has been a thrill.

Although I always knew her story would come to a final, insanely unpredictable end, playing a creepy, unstable character was something I always wanted to do, so I jumped at the chance. Thanks to The CW and the entire cast and crew of ‘Melrose Place’ for allowing me this opportunity!”

Also it’s reported that the show is going to transition to a lighter,more fun style. The executive producer of the show, Todd Slavkin said that Ashlee leaving was the plan since the beginning. He stated, “Once that murder mystery was solved, Ashlee’s character would go on her way.That was the original plan going into the development of the show.”

However, he did say that Heather Locklear is going to be in every episode moving forward. He stated, “Her return is going to be a big moment on ‘Melrose.She’s in every episode moving forward. She’s a major focus of the show. She has a hidden agenda that will become not so hidden as the episodes move along. She’s not just the boss of Ella Katie Cassidy.”
