Rihanna brought ‘Hard’ new sound to the 2009 American Music Awards. Rihanna kicked off her performance (video below) with a sci-fi themed clip that featured an ominous voiceover,which stated, “Ladies and gentlemen, for those of you who are easily frightened, we suggest you turn away now. To those of you who think they can take it, we say: Welcome to the madhouse.”
The opening video sequence showed images of a woman that was strapped to a medical table with shiny instruments that covered her privates. A team of blue ghost figures implanted a series of computer chips into her body,and then she sprang to life.
The silver mask was removed from her face,and it was revealed that it was indeed Rihanna. She was strapped on an X-shaped rigging.
Rihanna,then started singing her new single, “Wait Your Turn” while wearing a skintight white catsuit bisected by cut-outlines which revealed horizontal bits of flesh across her body. It was topped off with spiked shoulder pads,white studded cuffs and a barbed-wire snaking up her right forearm.
She finally stepped down from the platform while singing her song,looking very sexy. Next, she performed her Young Jeezy collaboration song entitled, “Hard.” It finally ended with a standing ovation from the crowd.
