James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ movie tops the worldwide box office with 232 million. According to Reuters, James Cameron’s “Avatar” movie earned an estimated $232.2 million from North America and 106 foreign markets. However,it’s reported that the movie cost at least $300 million dollars to make,so it has a little ways to go to break even. I’m pretty sure it will, though. Avatar’s opening is the 9th biggest opening of all time.
“Avatar” made $73 million dollars in North America, alone, but they were looking to make $85 million so they fell a little short. The top foreign countries were Russia with $21 million, France with $19 million, and the U.K. with $14.2 million. The record for a worldwide opening was set by “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” back in July of this year with $394 million. “Twilight Saga: New Moon” had a $275 million opening last month.
“Avatar” in short, is about an ex-Marine, Jake Sully who takes his brother’s place on a mission to Pandora to communicate with the native Navi tribe of the planet through an Avatar alien body. He eventually embraces them, and switches to their side in an effort to battle the Marines for their land.
James Cameron’s “Avatar” movie is in theaters now.
