Jay Leno Gets ‘The Tonight Show’ Back & Conan O’Brien Is Officially Out

Jay Leno gets ‘The Tonight Show’ back & Conan O’Brien is officially out. According to TMZ, Jay Leno has struck a new deal with NBC to get “The Tonight Show” back, and Conan O’Brien is officially on the outs since he wrote his letter the other day, stating that he does not want to continue with “The Tonight Show” if it’s bumped to a later time slot.
They say Jay Leno has made a new deal with NBC that will give him “The Tonight Show” in the 11:35pm to 12:35am time slot. NBC had to renegotiate Jay’s contract because his old contract originally stated that he was guaranteed the 10pm time slot, and that would have been a breach of contract, otherwise.
So, they have now renegotiated his new deal that puts him back in the 11:35 time slot with “The Tonight Show,” and everything is essentially back to the way it was before. I’m not sure why they ever made the change in the first place. I mean if something is working and has been working, why go change it up ? I think Conan’s a good host;don’t get me wrong. I just thing if something’s not broken, then don’t try and fix it. I think that saying held very true with this ordeal.

The problem is that Jeff Zucker, as far as he knew at the time, HAD to fix it. Sure, it wasn’t broken, but a few years ago, he was absolutely terrified that Conan was receiving offers from other networks. Conan was a hot commodity even then, and Zucker wanted to lock him into NBC for the better part of a decade. When he asked Conan what he needed to do to keep him, Conan said he wanted “The Tonight Show.” But basically, all Zucker really managed to accomplish was delaying Conan’s inevitable departure from the network by four years.
