Conan O’Brien To Collect $32 Million From NBC With Some Catches
Conan O’Brien to collect $32 million from NBC with some catches. According to TMZ, Conan O’Brien is setup to collect about $32.5 million dollars from NBC once their settlement deal is complete. However , there are a few catches. They say he”ll get this money,but he can’t host another talk show until September of this year.
NBC is also going to be paying severance pay to Conan’s “Tonight Show” employees,which will bring the total amount to about $40 million dollars. However, Conan may not see the full $32.5 million dollars if he accepts another hosting job to quickly because of an offset clause in the deal. If Conan O’Brien makes any money from another source during the remaining contract period, the amount he gets paid will offset the money NBC has to pay him. Example, if Conan made a deal with Fox for $20 million dollars, NBC would only have to pay $12.5 million dollars.
They also say an NBC source told them that NBC may be keeping the intellectual property rights of Conan’s character creations,which include: Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and the Masturbating Bear. If they actually do, Conan won’t be able to take those with him to his next hosting job. Right now, the exit deal still isn’t complete,but it’s close. Stay tuned.

If NBC has the stipulation that they don’t have to pay what another network (FOX) gives Conan I would think NBC will do whatever it takes to get Conan another show as quickly as possible. This includes keeping everything the same (the studio on Universal’s lot) except the name “The Tonight Show” for FOX to start airing the show ASAP. “From Universal Studios in Hollywood it’s The Conan O’Brien Show” Andy would say from the same spot as Conan gets killer ratings this summer 11/10pm on FOX. Jay Leno made a huge ordeal that he was leaving late night, then he comes out that he is having this new show on Thursdays. Then when it does appear its just pretty much his same show and its every week night. He is the one that made the mistake he needs to quit not Conan, who has a much better show, co host & band.
