Some people can go months, and even longer, searching for work. Apparently it wasn't even clear if Jake was going to pick her in the end. She decided not to take a gamble and wind up losing both her job AND Jake. It was a smart move. If I were her I'd be looking for another job because her boss is a jerk, but for now she understands that you have to have a job to make a living and get the basic needs in your life taken care of.
