Melina Kanakaredes leaves CSI NY before season 7. According to Entertainment Weekly, Melina Kanakaredes who plays Detective Stella Bonasera on CBS’ CSI:NY has decided to leave the show just before it’s set to head into its 7th season. They say that CBS hoped that Melina would return,stating, “We hoped Melina would return to CSI: NY for another season, but we respect her decision to move on.
Her amazing talent and invaluable contribution to the success of the series are greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten. She will forever remain a friend to the network and studio and we wish her the very best.” Melina made a statement as well. She said, “I made some amazing and lifelong friendships during my six seasons on CSI: NY, and I will treasure them forever.”
Although CBS declined to give a reason why Melina departed, their sources say that Melina was approached with a new deal,but opted to move on. This is the 4th casting shakeup for CBS this summer. As previously reported A.J. Cook,Liz Vassey,and Eddie Cibrian have been released from their shows Criminal Minds,CSI,and CSI: Miami. However, Cook will return briefly for closure.
