Skiers Got Injured In Dangerous Sugarloaf Mountain Incident

Skiers got injured in dangerous Sugarloaf Mountain incident. According to CNN, a couple of skiers got injured in a dangerous chairlift accident at Sugarloaf Mountain,Maine today. They say a gust of wind derailed a chairlift cable earlier this morning and sent the skiers tumbling.

At least three people were injured during the accident. About 100 skiers were stranded on the chairlift, which was 30 to 40 feet off the ground. Tony Harris from CNN said they heard screams from skiers down below that skiers were off the lift, and were trapped.

Skiers had to climb down one at a time using harnesses and ropes. The temperature there was about 8 degrees with a 20 mph to 30mph wind. The resort received 20-22 inches of fresh snow with the big weekend blizzard.

The lift cable derailed between 10:30am and 10:45am. All the chairs on that cable fell to the ground. At 11:40am, five stranded skiers were evacuated from the broken chairlift. The officials said it would take 60-90 minutes to rescue all the trapped skiers.
