‘Bold And The Beautiful’ Is Recasting A Popular Main Male Character, New Details
According to a new report from the folks over at Soapcentral, the Bold and The Beautiful crew is currently recasting a pretty popular main male character with former General Hospital Jasper “Jax” Jacks star Ingo Rademacher (above). He’s being brought on to play character Thorne Forrester. Apparently, he was in the running against former Thorne actor Winsor Harmon.
Winsor recently hopped on his official Twitter account to reveal that he had been replaced. He said that The Bold And The Beautiful executive producer/head writer Bradley Bell told him that they had decided to recast Thorne. This apparently didn’t go over well with a lot of fans since Winsor had been playing the Thorne role since 1996. Winsor wrote, “Just spoke with Brad Bell and at this time he’s decided to RECAST THORNE. I wish the new actor and the show continued success.”
Rademacher talked to TVInsider.com about his Thorne role and revealed that it’s actually going to be a long term contract role. It was originally going to just be an eleven episode arc.
He stated, “My managers called me up and said B&B was interested in my doing this 11-episode character and I said, ‘Sweet. Let’s do it.’But then, as I understand it executive producer Brad Bell had a change of heart and wanted to give me a full-time, contract role.”
The Thorne character hasn’t been seen for a while. So, this is a pretty interesting new development especially since this has been bumped up to a contract role. The last time the Thorne role was a contract role was way back in 2010. Ever since then, he was bumped down to just a recurring character.
Again, there have been some fans that have expressed disappointment in this recasting decision. Soapcentral pointed out that one fan wrote on Twitter,”This is ridiculous.” Another fan wrote, “WTH is Brad thinking? You ARE Thorne!” Sherri @socalla wrote, “Why bother recasting, writers haven’t given @winsorharmon a story line for years.”
Rademacher also addressed the fan backlash he’s seen from fans about him being recast as Thorne over Winsor. He really hopes the fans aren’t too upset because he’s never taken over a role that was previously played by a different actor.
He stated, “I read the comments and a lot of people weren’t happy. There was a lot of support for Winsor and rightly so. I said to my wife, ‘Wow, I feel kind of bad about this.’ I mean I know it’s the way things go in daytime, but this is a new experience for me. I’ve never stepped into a role that was previously played by someone else. I hope the fans aren’t too upset about this.”
Winsor Harmon being the stand up guy he is took the time to tweet Rademacher some words of support writing, “Congrats @IngoRademacher you’re gonna be amazing as Thorne buddy!! Big shoes dude, size 11, call me man.”
During the TVInsider.com interview, Rademacher revealed more details about the new Thorne role and more. He said that he’s really happy to get this new “Bold and The Beautiful” gig especially since there’s not many acting jobs for guys his age.
He stated, “I’m really excited about the way things turned out. I’ve had a recurring role on Hawaii Five-0 as federal prosecutor Robert Coughlin for the past couple of years. So, I’m really stoked to keep working for CBS. They seem to like me because they always retweet my stuff! Besides, there aren’t a hell of a lot of jobs for guys my age. I’m 46! But I wasn’t ready to retire.”
Next, he confirmed that he probably won’t be reprising his General Hospital “Jax” role ever again. He told them, “I made a brief return to General Hospital last March, but then Sonny had Jax deported. So, that was that! I guess Jax won’t be showing up there anytime soon. If he does, he won’t look like me!”
Rademacher unfortunately didn’t have any details on the new plans for Thorne yet. His hiring was all done through agents and managers. He hasn’t actually sat down and talked to the producer about it. He also had really good things to say about Winsor.
He told them, “I have yet to even talk with Brad. I met him briefly at a charity event at his house several years ago, but I doubt he even remembers it. All this was done through agents and managers. So, I’m waiting to hear more about the job. I’ve been researching the character and hope I can bring something unique to it.
You can’t try to be someone else, but I certainly hope to play Thorne as well as Winsor did. He’s really one of the nicest and most gracious people I’ve ever met.”
Lastly, Rademacher told them that the storylines could truly go anywhere. He pointed out some previous examples saying, “I’ve been reading all about the Brooke and Thorne relationship, and there’s so much there. We’ll have to see where it goes. I don’t start shooting for a few more weeks and haven’t seen any scripts yet. Even if that is the plan, who knows where it winds up?
When I started on GH, they had an entirely different idea of where to take Jax. He was supposed to be with Rena Sofer’s character Lois. That Sonny-Brenda-Jax triangle was never the plan at all. And now, Rena is on B&B playing Quinn. So hey, maybe we’ll wind up together after all!”
Other actors that have played the Thorne character are: Clayton Norcross and Jeff Trachta. Rademacher started playing the Jax character on General Hospital in January 1996. Then since 2011, he’s been returning off and on when the storyline dictates it.
There’s currently no word on when Rademacher will start taping his “Bold And The Beautiful” episodes. But, we’re told that he’s scheduled to start appearing onscreen as Thorne Forrester sometime in November 2017.
Aside from his popular General Hospital “Jax” character, Ingo Rademacher’s acting resume includes roles in CBS’ Hawaii Five-0, an upcoming TV series called, “Counterpart.” “Alex Cross.” “According to Jim” TV series. “Titans” TV series.”Veronica’s Closet” TV series. “Clueless” TV series. “Echo Point” TV series and “Paradise Beach” TV series.
