‘So You Think You Can Dance’ June 10, 2019 Auditions Revealed (Episode 2 Recap)

Hey, “So You Think You Can Dance” fans. Tonight, June 10, 2019, the second episode for this current season 16 did indeed air, and it featured more auditions out in Los Angeles, California. Of course, the judges: Lauriann Gibson, Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval, Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe were all on hand.

A contestant by the name Sumi Oshima kicked off tonight’s audition episode. She did a lot of popping, animation and locking during her routine. Afterwards, Lauriann told Sumi, “You need to take all the fight and put it into every style.”

Dominic said, “I was blown away. I can’t believe the control.” Mary said, “I did not anticipate that.” Nigel said, “You’re a thief. You have stolen our hearts.” She got 4 yeses from all the judges. So, she’s headed to the next round aka The Academy.

Next, another female dancer named Caroline De La Rocha hit the stage. She’s a contemporary dancer. After her performance, Mary told Caroline, “You have a lot of fight in the dancing, but the transitions aren’t that great.”

Nigel said, “You’re dancing uncontrolled.” Lauriann said, “I believe you’re here to fight.” Dominic said, “I agree with Lauriann, but I also agree that the execution was shaky. I’m on both sides of the fence.” Mary gave her a yes. Nigel gave her a no. Lauriann gave her a yes. Dominic gave her a yes as well. So, Caroline did make it through to the Academy.

After that,a male dancer named Samuel Sweetser auditioned. He’s a B-Boy dancer. It was revealed that he’s married with two kids. He ended up doing a very intense B-Boy/hip hop routine.

Afterwards, Nigel told Samuel, “I fear when you do a Cha-Cha or Samba, it will look wrong.” Lauriann said, “Nothing is like an authentic B-boy stance.” Dominic said, “I give you props for having your own B-boy moves.” Mary said, “You’re an amazing entertainer.” Samuel got 4 yeses from the judges.

Next to hit the stage was another female dancer named Gianna Newborg. She’s a contemporary dancer. She ended up doing a very dramatic and intense dance about being kidnapped, and her moves were very sharp and clean.

After her performance, Mary told Gianna, “You’re performance was superb, theatrical and a dynamo.” Nigel said, “You connected with me.” Lauriann said, “You raised the bar even more.” Dominic said, “Thank you for taking a chance on your ideas and being different.” Gianna got 4 yeses from the judges.

At this point, they showed a quick montage of contemporary dancers: Tra Wilson, Howard Johnson, and Abigail Hau. They all made it through to the Academy as well.

Next, a ballroom dancing duo named Nazz Sldryan and Stefen Yeritsyan hit the stage for their audition. This was the first time they officially danced together. However, it was revealed that they grew up in the same studio and sometimes danced against one another.

They ended up doing a very strong performance. After it was done, Dominic told them, “I was entertained from beginning to end.” Laurie said, “I love the connection based on friendship.” Nigel said, “I agree on the connection, but I want to see more back lift from Nazz.” Mary said,”I give Stefen props on his masculine dancing.” They both got screaming yeses from all the judges.

After all of that, a female dancer named “Korra” Obidi Dean hit the stage. It was revealed that she’s from a Royal Nigerian family and pregnant! She ended up doing an African inspired routine that literally ended with her doing a jumping split. All the judges jaws dropped since she is preggers.

After her routine, Laurie told Korra, “You’re a world changer and a systems breaker.” Dominic joked, “I couldn’t believe you just did the splits and saved your baby at the same time.” Mary said, “You’re one fierce woman.” Nigel said, “I enjoyed it.” Korra got a no from all the four judge because she’s freaking pregnant and pretty far along too.

Lastly, a contemporary ballet duo named Kaeli Ware and Brandon Talbot hit the stage. This was another duo who had been dancing with each other since they were kids. They also delivered a very strong performance.

Afterwards, Nigel said,”Brandon he has a great center, and it looked magnificent.” Lauriann said, “You’re like two tornadoes circling and coming together.” Dominic said, “I couldn’t choose. My eyes were going back and forth between the both of you. You two are great together and individually.” Mary said, “You were magnificent together.” They also got screaming yeses from all the four judges.
