MasterChef August 10, 2022 Eliminated Bri Baker (Recap)

Hey, “Masterchef” fans. Tonight, August 10, 2022, another new episode of MasterChef season 12 did indeed air with judges Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich, and another contestant did meet their demise at the end.

Tonight’s episode kicked off with them bringing on season 3 winner Christine Ha to be a 4th judge. She also curated a mystery box for the contestants to work from in tonight’s elimination challenge. Their mystery box contained 11 Vietnamese ingredients, and they had to use all of them in their dish. They were given 60 minutes to complete this challenge.

During the challenge, Shanika talked about what dish she’s making, and she said she was going to give it her all. Bowen said he was making a noodle dish. He also said, “This is an advantage for me because I know Vietnamese food.”

Amanda told Christine and Gordon about her dish. They mentioned that it usually takes days to make this dish, but she said she’s using a pressure cooker to make up time. Gordon told her to focus on execution, and he wished her good luck.

Brandi mentioned that she’s making a sticky pork belly dish. Michael told Gordon and Christine that he’s making a beef stew dish.

Emily told Aaron and Joe that he’s making a lemon grass pork dish. They told her, “good luck.” They also told her that they’ll be looking for her to make good use of those peppers even though she doesn’t normally cook spicy foods.

Christian told Gordon and Christine he was making a beef po dish. Christine said, “That’s not an easy dish to make,” and they wished him good luck.

Dara told Aaron and Joe that she’s making a Porridge and duck dish, and they wished her good luck. Brandi burned her pork bellies in the pressure cooker with 20 minutes left and not enough time to start over. “I’ve bit off more than I can chew,” she said. She ended up cutting off the burnt parts of the pork bellies,and she said, “I hope I didn’t burn it all.”

Bri told Gordon and Christine she was making a salmon dish. Christine told her, “I think it’s really key to cook that salmon perfectly. Good luck.”

Fred told Joe and Aaron about his dish. They told him to embrace his weirdness. Derrick told Gordon and Christine he was making a soft shell crab dish.

Gabriel told Aaron and Joe he’s making a Vietnamese inspired curry dish. Willie told Gordon and Christine that he’s making a fish sauce and caramel catfish dish. Christine said, “It sounds promising and delicious, and I like the addition of the lime.” Gordon said, “This catfish dish sounds delicious.”

After the time was up, the judges went around and checked the dishes. Then, they revealed that the top 3 dishes belonged to Michael, Christian and Dara.

Michael presented a Vietnamese Beef Short Rib Stew with Crispy Crab, Pork & Mushroom Rolls dish. Aaron said, “It’s flavorful.” Christine said, “I like your beef and spring rolls. Very solid.” Joe said, “Good job.”

Christian presented a Vegetable & Beef Pho with Roasted Okra dish. Joe said, “It looks like something out of a food magazine.” Christine said, “The broth is delicious.” Joe said, “It’s a really great, balanced noodle dish.” Aaron said, “It had really great elements.” Gordon said, “It’s punchy and bold. Great job.”

Dara presented a Rice Porridge with Seared Duck Breast and Sautéed Morning Glory & Mung Beans dish. Christine said, “You managed to make this humble dish into something very elevated.” Joe said, “It’s an explosion of flavor. Very well done.” Aaron said, “It was a very interesting paring with the duck. Good job.” Gordon said, “If anyone thinks you’re an underdog, they need to think again.”

After all of that, the judges decided that Michael’s dish was the top dish. So, he won immunity from the next elimination challenge.

Next, the judges revealed that the bottom 3 dishes belonged to Bri, Brandi and Emily. Bri presented a Pan Seared Salmon with a Fish Sauce Caramel Glaze, Stir-Fried Noodles and Coconut-Lime Sauce dish. Joe said, “I’m not tasting anything.” Aaron said, “It’s just so flat.” Christine said, “It’s very boring. As a whole, the dish didn’t work for me.” Gordon said, “It completely missed the mark.”

Brandi presented a Vietnamese Sticky Pork Belly with Serrano Chili Noodles and Pickled Carrots & Daikon dish. Gordon said, “The pork tasted nice, but it needs acidity. It’s not complete.” Aaron said, “It needs cohesiveness to bring it all together.” Christine said, “It needs to be brought together more.”

Emily presented a Lemongrass Pork Salad with Marinated Vegetables and Shrimp Dusted Crispy Rice Chip dish. Joe said, “It lacks love, intelligence and strategy.” Aaron said, “It’s too stripped down and dry.” Christine said, “It’s missing a great sauce.” Gordon said, “Tonight, you were out of your comfort zone.”

After all of that, the judges decided that Bri had the worst dish. Gordon told Bri, “The dish was miles away. It just didn’t make sense ,and it didn’t taste authentically Vietnamese. Promise us you’ll continue your journey.” Bri said, “Thank you all for your feedback, and I’ll continue to grow.” How do you guys feel about Bri Baker getting eliminated in this episode?
