Grey’s Anatomy Season 15 Is Getting Three Extra Episodes Added To It

Happy Wednesday, “Grey’s Anatomy” fans. Some great news has just recently unfolded for your favorite show. According to the folks over at Entertainment Weekly, ABC has decided that the current season 15 is doing so well that they decided they needed to order more of it! What does this mean for the current season 15?

Well, nothing but super good things. Instead of you guys just getting 22 episodes for season 15, you’re going to get a whopping 25 episodes! Actually, this isn’t a huge surprise. ABC seems to do this every year. They certainly did it last year around this time. They usually start out ordering the traditional 22 episode, and then they turn around and order an additional three episodes once they confirm the ratings and viewership are continuing to do well enough to warrant the additional episode order.

In light of this extra episode order from ABC, we’re going to take this time to look at the current ratings and viewership numbers for the current season 15. It turns out that it has picked up steam as of late. The season 15 premiere episode drew in around 6.8 million viewers. Then that number hopped up to around 7.2 million in the most recent episode 8 which aired back on November 15, 2018.

The premiere episode scored a 1.87 rating for the 18-49 age demographics. That was down about 20 percent from the previous year’s premiere episode, but it’s still very strong. The most recent episode 8 received a 1.75 ratings score for the 18-49 demo to go along with that 7.2 million viewers. So, the ratings have dropped a little, while the viewership increased.

Up until the most recent episode 8, Grey’s Anatomy season 15 had been averaging between 6.6 and 6.8 million viewers per episode in the United States. So, it has been pretty consistent with its audience numbers. The ratings numbers actually dropped down to a 1.59 score before the most recent episode 8 aired. After that, it hopped back up to 1.75. So, episode 8 really did well for the show.

As previously reported, Grey’s Anatomy is going to become the longest running drama series ever! That’s a huge accomplishment. It’s also still ABC’s number one show. So, it looks like there won’t be any cancellation anywhere in sight for Grey’s Anatomy anytime soon.

Entertainment Weekly reminded us in their article that the show has recently hired former “Dirty Dancing” actress Jennifer Grey to come on for a multiple episode arc. As previously reported, no other details about her character have been revealed. However, it’s highly believed that she will play character Jo Wilson’s estranged mother. We’ll see if that pans out to be true.

How do you guys feel about getting an additional three episodes for season 15? Let us know in the Facebook comments.

Season 15 is still scheduled to finally come out of its long winter break on Thursday night, January 17, 2019 with the brand new episode 9. It will air in the usual 7 pm central time slot on ABC.
