MasterChef August 21, 2019 Eliminated Bri Baker (Recap)

Hey, “MasterChef” fans. Last night, August 21,2019 another elimination episode did indeed air with judges: Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich. The episode kicked off by showing footage from last week’s elimination episode when they sent Jamie Hough packing.

After that, they revealed that a special guest would be joining them. It turned out to be nutrition author and television host Daphne Oz.

Shari was stoked that Daphne was there. Apparently, she was a fan. The judges told the contestants they were doing another Mystery Box challenge, and everyone was up for elimination, not immunity! They were shocked to say the least.

Next, it was revealed that the Mystery Box contained a cast iron pan. The contestants had to whip up something fantastic just using a cast iron skillet. Bri immediately expressed doubt saying, “I’ve never just used one pan before.”

Daphne did a special demonstration of what can be done with just one cast iron skillet. Everyone thought she did a beautiful job, but of course she did, right? She’s a friggin pro.

Anyways, the contestants were given 60 minutes to complete their challenge. It was also revealed that the winner would get their dish published on the Family Circle Magazine website.

Subha said he felt very confident with this task. Nick revealed he was making a clam chowder dish. Sarah said she was making a filet mignon dish.

Bri told Gordon and Daphne she was making salmon, corn puree and a roasted baby carrots dish. Daphne said she liked what she saw so far.

Micah told Joe and Aaron what he was making. Joe thought he was taking a huge risk. Joe also said his dish was already off.

Subha told Joe he was making shrimp biryani. Joe told Subha he did look much more calm for this challenge.

Noah told Gordon and Daphne he was making a Chinese fritatta dish. Shari said she was making Indian chole with chickpea curry. She was most worried about timing it correctly.

Dorian told Gordon and Daphne she was making a peach chicken dish. Sarah told Joe and Aaron she was making a sweet potato and a filet mignon dish. She also said, “There’s no way I’m not getting into the top seven.”

At around 30 minutes to go, Gordon jumped in on the fun to complete the challenge in half the time after Joe challenged him.

Next, it was revealed that Bri scorched the skin of her salmon. So, she had to cook another one with less than 30 minutes to go.

Gordon told Joe and Daphne he was making a lemon pepper, chicken pot pie dish. Nick told Aaron about his clam chowder dish. Aaron told him don’t over cook them or they could be rubbery.

Aaron gave Dorian some advice on her peach chicken. Micah burned some stuff right in front of Joe. Joe gave him some advice that he needed to clear out all the burnt stuff before trying to cook in that pan again.

Dorian experienced trouble getting her rice to cook. Gordon seemed quite confident with his lemon chicken pot pie when the time was up. Bri also said she was confident with her dish.

Gordon presented his lemon scented chicken pot pie first. Daphne said, “It’s really good.” Aaron said, “It’s unreal.” Joe said, “I’m surprised at how you could do that in such a short time.”

Next, they had the regular contestants present their dishes. Bri presented a crispy skin salmon with corn puree, candied bacon, roasted baby carrots and pickeled shallots dish.

Gordon said, “The salmon is raw, but the puree is delicious.” Joe said of the salmon, “It’s completely raw.” Daphne said, “The puree is delicious, but I’m missing the cast iron char.” Basically, Bri was pretty much done in that moment, and she knew it.

Sarah presented a medium rare filet mignon with sauteed broccolinni, fondant sweet potato and cabernet pan sauce dish. Aaron said, “Man, that is beautiful. I love everything about it.” Joe said, “It’s kind of perfect in it’s simplicity. You nailed it.” Daphne said, “It’s beautiful.”

Subha presented a shrimp biryani with apple cucumber and date salad dish. Gordon said, “This is one of your best platings. It’s delicious.” Daphne said, “I love it. It’s so delicious.” Joe said, “Subha is one to watch right now. Great, Subha.”

Noah presented a Chinese fritatta with anchovy and black bean paste, broccolini rabe yogurt sauce dish. Joe said, “The plating is awful, and it wouldn’t be served at any restaurant anywhere.”

Gordon said, “It’s a bizarre combination.” Joe said, “It’s unsophisticated and unevolved.” Aaron said, “You should’ve made a taco out of it.” Gordon said, “The dish doesn’t make sense.”

Dorian presented a smothered herb peach chicken with rice dish. Aaron said, “I love the char, but I’m worried about the rice. The rice is undercooked. Otherwise, it’s fantastic.” Joe said, “This is not true Dorian standards.” Daphne said, “I want it elevated.” Gordon said, “It’s one of the flattest dishes you’ve done.”

Nick presented his simple clam chowder dish. Daphne said, “I like the color contrast. It’s my favorite plating. It’s delicious. The layers of flavoring are amazing.” Gordon said, “It’s a little thick for me, but smart utilization of a cast iron pan.” Joe said, “It was great.”

Shari presented a Indian style chole with garlic naan dish. Gordon said, “Visually, it’s good.” Daphne said, “The naan is delicious, but I wanted yogurt to cool it. Otherwise, it’s amazing.” Joe liked it too.

Micah presented a pepper custed filet mignon with fingerling potatoes, braised kale, cipollini mushrooms and bourbon shallot sauce dish. Daphne said, “It seems one dimensional to me.” Joe said, “It’s kind of burnt.”

Daphne said, “The sauce came together nice, but the dish is lacking.” Gordon said, “It’s overcooked on the outside.” Joe said, “It’s a series of missteps and mistakes.”

After all that, the judges saved Subha first. They said his dish was the best, and would be featured on the Family Circle Magazine website.

Next, they revealed that Sarah, Nick, Shari and Dorian were all safe. That left Bri, Noah and Micah as the bottom three.

Then they told Bri that she was indeed eliminated for presenting that raw Salmon. Gordon said, “You left us with no other choice.” She started crying. Bless her heart. Gordon did give her some encouraging words for her future as a chef. So, that was nice.
