Survivor April 19, 2023 Voted Off Brandon Cottom In Major Blindside (Recap)
Hey, “Survivor” fans. Tonight, April 19, 2023, another new episode of Survivor season 44 did hit the air, and another unlucky contestant got voted off with another massive blindside. Tonight’s episode kicked off with Yam Yam talking about the last tribal council meeting that sent Matt Blankinship home.
Yam Yam told the private cams, “I guess I’m that cat with 9 lives.” Frannie told the private cams, “Now that Matt’s gone, I feel like I have nothing. He felt like home to me here. To watch him go, was so hard,” and she teared up.
Brandon told the private cams, “We really wanted to break up Frannie and Matt’s alliance at the last tribal council.” Heidi told the private cams, that she could really use Yam Yam as a number on her side, which is why she used her vote advantage on him at the last tribal council meeting.
Heidi told Yam Yam she needed to pair up with him moving forward. Yam Yam told the private cams, “Me, Carolyn and Carson are in the middle. Everyone wants our votes.” Carson told the private cams, “The Tika 3 (aka Carson, Carolyn and Yam Yam) are in a very powerful position. Everyone is underestimating us.”
Everyone got a tree mail note, which revealed to them that they will need to split up into 5 pairs of two for the next immunity challenge. Danny ended up teaming with Lauren, but he still told the private cams he wanted to vote off Lauren.
Next, we got footage of host Jeff Probst showing up with the new immunity challenge. At this point, all the pairs of two were revealed to be: Kane and Brandon, Danny and Lauren, Jamie and Heidi, Frannie and Yam Yam and Carson and Carolyn
During this challenge, they started off as pairs of two, and they had to race separately through a twisted net obstacle course. Then, start digging up a plank and plant a flag to move on to next round. The first 4 to do it moved on. Carolyn and Carson got eliminated in the first round.
In round 2, they had race up a cargo net. Untie planks. Put them on a rope bridge so they could cross over to the next platform. Then, run to a mat to advance to the final round. Lauren, Danny, Brandon and Kane did it first to make it to the final 4.
At this point, there were no more pairs. It was all individual. In the last round, they had to stand on a narrow foot-hold for as long as they possibly could. The last one standing, won. It came down to Danny and Lauren as the final 2, and Lauren edged out Danny for the win. So, Lauren was safe from elimination.
Danny told the private cams he needed to change his plans since Lauren won. “We need to get someone from Ratu out,” he said. Brandon and Kane pitched out Frannie’s name as a target to Yam Yam and Carolyn. They seem to agree at that point in time. Also, Danny and Lauren seemed to agree with voting out Frannie. However, Heidi turned around and started planning with Danny to blindside Brandon.
Danny said he could use his immunity idol on Frannie and get out Brandon. Heidi campaigned to Yam Yam, Frannie and Carolyn to get out Brandon. Yam Yam told Carson about it. Heidi joined their conversation to assure Carson the plan would work because Danny has an immunity idol and wants to use it on Frannie.
Danny told Frannie he’s going to play the idol on her and try to get out Brandon. However, at the last minute, Carson told Danny, that Yam Yam knows about Danny’s idol. That made Danny worry that Yam Yam might flip on him and try to get him out instead. So, Danny started thinking about just using the idol on himself instead of Frannie heading into the tribal council meeting.
At the tribal council meeting, they just did some general game talk before casting their votes. Before the votes were read, Danny did indeed go through with the plan to use his idol to save Frannie. So, no votes against Frannie counted.
Frannie ended up getting 6 votes that didn’t count, and Brandon got 3 votes that very much counted. So, Brandon totally got ousted, and he was shocked. However, he did leave calmly and just said, “Wow” to the private cams on the way out.
Brandon went on to tell the private cams, “Clearly, Danny had the idol, and it was a great move. I can’t fault him for that. That’s Survivor. Sometimes, you get caught. They were going for the big fish, and they got him.” How do you guys feel about Brandon Cottom getting voted off Survivor season 44 in tonight’s episode? Let us know in the comments section.
