New Obi Wan Kenobi Season 2 Is Currently Being Considered
We totally hope you guys enjoyed the absolute hell out of the first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Now that it has wrapped up, we are back with a partial answer to the burning question, which is will there be a new season 2? Right now, all we can tell you is maybe.
Here’s the deal. The people over at TVLine.com recently reported that Obi-Wan Kenobi’s executive producer/director Deborah Chow recently explained to the folks over at Entertainment Tonight that Obi Wan Kenobi was always meant to be just a limited series. However, they still might be open to moving forward with a new season if there was a good enough reason.
She stated, “We really did conceive it to be a limited series. It really is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end. So, we weren’t thinking past that. I think, you know, if it was to go forward, it would only be if there was a real reason for another one.”
The president of Lucasfilms Kathleen Kennedy also chimed in on the possible season 2 discussion with Entertainment Tonight. She basically said that it will actually be up to the fans whether or not a new season 2 happens saying, “If there’s huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we’ll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us. And if we feel like, ‘OK, there’s a real reason to do this, we’ll do it. But, we’ll see.”
TVLine also pointed out some important data, which revealed that Obi-Wan Kenobi did rank as the most-viewed Disney Plus original series premiere globally to date back in May 2022. That data was based on hours streamed in an opening weekend.
So, Obi-Wan Kenobi definitely has the viewing numbers on its side. For now, we’ll just have to sit tight and wait. They definitely aren’t totally ruling out the possibility of a new season 2 despite only planning to run it as a limited series.
