Task New Season 2 Is Happening. HBO Renewed It

According to Justjared.com and their sources, HBO has not officially renewed their new crime/drama series Task for a new season 2 as of yet. So, that means tonight’s season 1 finale episode 7 may have very well been its last one forever. We will have to wait and see. Update: HBO did renew the show for a new season 2.

Justjared did go on to explain that Task’s creator and showrunner Bred Ingelsby did talk about the possibility of doing a new season 2 with Esquire magazine. Apparently, he would definitely like to do a new season 2 for sure stating, “I’d love to do another season of Task.

If people respond to Task and keep responding to Task, I’d love to tell more stories about this place, because I love writing about this place. I do feel like I have more stories to tell.

What I love about TV is just how many characters you get to explore. I really see myself as a character writer, not a great plot writer. You get to explore the Grassos, the Lizzies, and Aleahs. If I were to do a movie, unless I were Robert Altman, I just wouldn’t be able to tap into that many characters.”

According to Thewrap.com and their sources, Task has brought in over 10 million viewers. The most recent episode 6, which aired last Sunday night, October 12, 2025 brought in over 4 million viewers across their streaming platforms. So, that is pretty good.

Ultimately, a season 2 renewal order will come down to whether or not HBO likes the profitability of the show. If it makes them enough money, I’m pretty sure they’ll buy another season. If not, it’s highly likely that they won’t. Only they know the answer to that. So, we will have to wait for their official announcement to know for sure if the show will live on.
