Lanterns New Season 2 Still In Question. HBO Hasn’t Renewed It Yet
Tonight, October 4, 2026, HBO is going to air the next, new episode 8 of Lanterns’ current, premiere season 1, and it will be the season finale episode. So, we did search around to see if the people over at HBO decided to order a new season 2 renewal package yet.
Unfortunately, at this time, they have not yet given Lanterns a renewal order according to a couple of sources including Yahoo.com and the Hollywood Reporter.
There is some shred of good news though because Yahoo and the Hollywood Reporter are telling us that the Lanterns production team is very highly optimistic about their chances of landing a new season 2 renewal to the point that they’ve gone ahead and actually hired a new writer to join them in writing the new season 2!
The new writer’s name is Christopher Cantwell. They’re telling us that he is a very beloved Marvel and Star Wars writer. In addition to writing for the anticipated season 2, he has also been hired to do some executive production work on the series.
It was also mentioned that the Lanterns team wants to bring back Vanessa Baden Kelly as a writer for the new season 2 along with even more newcomers: Nakkiah Lui, Zack Whedon, and Selwyn Seyfu Hinds. That’s a total of five writers that they have actively working on the new season 2 script. Chris Mundy is the showrunner.
Again, Chris is very confident and optimistic that HBO will order a new season 2. He’s been seen, talking about how they’ve already been working on it for six weeks, and how he plans to tell the chapter a little differently so it feels fresh. We certainly hope his optimism is met with what he expects. Right now, the new season 2’s fate is still technically being decided by HBO. So, we’ll see.
Again, numerous sources are reporting that HBO has yet to order a new season 2 for Lanterns as of this writing. That is a wrap for this latest, “Lanterns” TV show report, but definitely stay tuned for more.
