New 48 Hours October 17 Episodes To Feature A Vicious Corn Rake Murder Scandal & More
According to CBS, they are officially scheduled to finally air the very first, premiere episodes 1 and 2 of 48 Hours’ new season 39 tonight, October 17, 2026, and they will feature a look at a story about a death by corn rake scandal and more.
According to CBS’ official episode 1 press release information, it’s titled, “The Corn Rake Witness.” The preview info from CBS’ episode description is telling us that the 48 Hours team is going to take a deep look at a story about an Earlville, Iowa man named Todd Mullis.
He was convicted of murdering his wife Amy via a corn rake. They’re presenting an exclusive interview with Todd’s son Trysten in this episode. Apparently, Trysten believes his father was wrongfully convicted, and he’s fighting to try and clear his father’s name.
Correspondent Erin Moriarty handled the reporting duties for this episode and case. It will feature interviews with: Trysten Mullis, son of Todd and Amy Mullis, in his first-ever interview, Peggy Munson, Amy’s mother, Jeff Fuller, Amy’s brother, Dina and Daniel Nesheiwat, defense attorneys, Mike Mullis and Lynne White, Todd’s brother and sister, Dr. Jennifer Hammers, forensic pathologist and Dr. Valentina Ngai, biomechanical engineer.
The new episode 2 is officially titled,”The Detective and the Chewing Gum Sting.” The preview info is telling us that the 48 Hours team will take a deep look at a story about an Everett, Washington woman named Susan Vesey.
She was a 21 year old mother of two kids before she got murdered way back in 1980. Four years after that, a divorced mother named Judy Weaver was sexually assaulted and strangled to death right inside her own house.
Both of these cases went cold for over 40 years until a cold-case detective named Susan Logothetti opened it up. Via some fresh DNA testing involving the chewing of some bubble gum, she was able to link both of the murders to a known predator named Mitchell Gaff and finally crack these cases. Susan also gave an interview about it in this episode.
48 HOURS correspondent Peter Van Sant handled the reporting duties for this episode and case. It will feature interviews with: Detective Susan Logothetti, Everett Police Department, Cathy Meyers, daughter of Judy Weaver, Colleen Kayser, daughter of Judy Weaver, Paula Keeler, childhood friend of Susan Vesey.
