Top Critics gave ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ movie real good reviews. Dreamworks Animation released their new animated fantasy/adventure flick, “How To Train Your Dragon” in theaters today,and the top movie critics seemed to have enjoyed it quite a bit,giving it mostly As and Bs across the board. Only one of the critics gave it a C+. The movie stars: Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrara, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Craig Ferguson, Kristen Wiig, and T.J. Miller.
Tom Russo from the Boston Globe gave it a B. He said , it “…does frenetic action well, even if some bits undermine their sweet pacifist message.” Roger Ebert from the Chicago Sun-Times gave it a B rating . He stated, “it’s bright, good-looking and has high energy. Kids above the easily scared age will probably like the movie the younger they are.”
Michael Phillips over at the Chicago Tribune gave it a strong A-. He said, it “creates a world and revels in the details and wraps it all in a rich, lush storybook ambience.” Owen Gleiberman at “Entertainment Weekly” gave it another strong A- rating. He stated, it “has a kinetically dreamy, soaring-through-the-air effervescence.”
Alex Zalben from Filmcritic.com gave it a B-. He said, the “Characters switch motivations on a whim, often saying the exact opposite of what they said in a previous scene, with no rhyme or reason.”
Kirk Honeycutt at the “Hollywood Reporter” gave it a C+. He stated, “A lively though disjointed 3D cartoon that never quite entices an audience to invest emotionally in its fantasy world.”
A.O. Scott from the New York Times gave it a B- rating. He said, “The way the dragons look, the way they move, the way they catch the light, dissolve in the mist, somersault through the air and dive toward the ground — all of this is likely to make you forget the uninspired plot and the shopworn lessons.”
Peter Travers over at Rolling Stone gave it a B. He said, “Kid stuff? Maybe. But How to Train Your Dragon, from the book by Cressida Cowell, works enough miracles of 3-D animation to charm your socks off.”
