Black Sabbath’s Ronnie James Dio died today due to stomach cancer. According to TMZ and other news sources, Ronnie James Dio died earlier today after losing his battle with stomach cancer. Ronnie James Dio took over as lead singer of Black Sabbath after Ozzy Osbourne left the band. He was 67 years old.
Ronnie announced last summer that he was battling stomach cancer,and was undergoing treatment at a Houston hospital. Ronnie was often credited for popularizing the “Devil’s horn” hand gesture in heavy metal culture. His wife Wendy made a statement on his website today,expressing her heart-broken feelings.
She stated, “Today my heart is broken. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss.
