Singer Teena Marie Died last night. According to TMZ, Grammy nominated singer Teena Marie died in her sleep last night at age 54. They say Teena’s rep Lynn Jeter confirmed the news. Her relatives found her body early this morning at her home. As right now, it’s unclear what the cause of death was.
The Pasadena Police Department says that they do not suspect foul play was involved,and that it looks like Teena died of natural causes. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office is scheduled to perform the autopsy.
Marie was nominated for a Grammy four times in her career. her first top ten hit was “I’m Just a Sucker for Your Love.” Marie was nicknamed Lady Tee,and was the protegee of the late funk legend Rick James. She played rhythm guitar,keyboards,and congas. She also wrote,produced,sang,and arranged most of her songs since her 1980 release Irons in the Fire.
