MasterChef Season 11, August 11, 2021 Eliminated No One (Recap)
Hey, “MasterChef” fans. Tonight, August 11, 2021, another new episode of MasterChef’s current season 11 did indeed air after being delayed for the past two weeks. Judges: Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich were on hand along with a special, guest judge, which was legendary Roy Choi.
Since Roy Choi specializes in serving up great street food, the contestants were tasked with taking a traditional street food item and making a restaurant quality dish out of it. They were given 60 minutes to do it. The contestant with the best dish won a dinner and immunity in the next elimination round.
During the competition, Autumn mentioned that she was making a lobster dish. Lexy said she was making a cheese steak dish. Michael said he was cooking up a fish taco dish.
Kelsey told Gordon and Roy that she was making a short cake dish. Alejandro told Gordon and Roy he was making some sort of potato dish. Roy told Alejandro, “You’re making it more difficult for yourself, but if you pull it off, it’ll be spectacular.” Gordon told Alejandro, “You need to listen. Don’t overdo it.”
Anne told Joe and Aaron she was making a shrimp spring roll dish. Suu told Joe and Aaron she was making a New York Strip dish. Joe told her, “We’re looking for punchy flavors. Good luck.”
Joseph told Gordon and Roy he’s making a chargrilled pork dish. Autumn told Joe and Aaron he’s making a lobster rolls dish. Joe told Joseph, “You’re in very good shape to do a good dish. Good luck.”
At one point, the judges commented that Alejandro is trying to do too much in just 60 minutes.
Kelsey revealed that she completely burned her caramel sauce and had to restart it with 30 minutes left to go. “I’m really worried,” she said. “It definitely throws me off my game.”
Abe told Gordon and Roy that he was making an Eastern European street food dish. Roy said, “I’m excited for this. I’ve never had it before.”
Michael told Joe and Aaron he’s making a fish taco dish. They told him, “Good Luck.”
Lexy told Roy and Gordon she’s making a Chicago Philly cheese steak dish. Roy told her, “Your cheese sauce seems a little thin.” Lexy said, “I’m a little nervous about my cheese sauce. It’s a little runny.” Later, it was revealed that Lexy made her cheese sauce too thick when she tried to correct it, and there was just a few minutes left.
Alejandro left his station to get another ingredient with just one minute to go! It really came down to the wire for him. Alejandro said he felt good about his dish at the end.
Next, all the contestants presented their dishes to the judges, starting with Kelsey. She presented a white chocolate & buttermilk cake with strawberry coulis, whipped cream and pistachio brittle dish. Gordon said, “It’s delicious. The texture is spot on.” Roy said, “It’s an excellent dish. Amazing.” Joe said, “You nailed it.” Aaron said, “Good job.”
Lexy was up next with her New York strip “cheese steak” dish. She added bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese sauce and parmesan tuile to it. Gordon said, “The steak is cooked beautifully. The only letdown was the sauce.” Roy said, “It’s a really great dish. Great job.” Aaron said, “It was delicious.” Joe said, “You did well. Good job.”
Anne presented a shrimp “spring roll” dish. She added fried rice noodles and pickled cucumber to it. Joe said, “The noodles were like eating a brillo pad. They’re unedible, but the shrimp was good.” Gordon said, “The shrimp was cooked beautifully, but you destroyed the other aspects of this dish.” Roy said, “It was a little too hard to eat.”
Alejandro presented a “loaded fries” dish. He added steak, eggs, hollandaise sauce and truffle slices to it. Gordon said, “The meat is cooked beautifully. It’s delicious, elevated. This is one of your best creations this season.” Roy said, “Great job.” Joe said, “Your skills are finally up to par. Great job.”
Autumn presented a tarragon poached “lobster roll” dish. She added celery root puree, pearl onions and lemon zest croutons to it. Gordon said, “It was delicious.” Roy said, “There were just some small technical things that needed work.” Joe said, “The flavors are really good. Excellent.”
Abe presented a “Mici” with lamb dish. He added beef, pork, toasted brioche and coleslaw to it. Gordon said, “The flavors pop. It’s delicious.” Roy said, “I’m delighted with it. It’s amazing.” Aaron said, “The sauce and slaw is delicious.”
Suu presented a New York strip “kabob” dish. She added pan seared vegetables and mint cucumber chutney to it. Aaron said, “I loved it.” Roy said, “Good dish.” Gordon said, “Well done.”
Michael presented a “fish tacos” dish. He added lump crab hash and spicy slaw to it. Gordon mentioned he had a problem with Michael not taking the skin off the fish. Michael said he did that on purpose because that’s how he always did it growing up.
After tasting it, Gordon went on to say, “The fish is cooked beautifully. You’ve nailed it. Good job.” Roy said, “It’s delicious, but I just didn’t understand the crab.” Aaron said, “It’s good.” Joe said, “It was superb.”
Joseph served up a pork chop “banh mi” dish. He added pickled vegetables, fried onions and cilantro jalapeno aioli to it. Gordon said, “It’s cooked beautifully. Spot on.” Roy said, “It’s a great dish. Restaurant quality.” Aaron said, “It’s a good dish.” Joe said, “It’s very clean and precise. It’s an excellent dish.”
After tasting all the dishes, the judges said that Kelsey, Joseph and Lexy had the top three dishes. However, it was Joseph who had the winning dish. So, Joseph won the dinner and immunity from the next elimination round, which takes place in next week’s new episode.
The next, new episode of MasterChef season 11 is scheduled to air next Wednesday night, August 18, 2021 at approximately 7 pm central standard time on FOX.
