Grey’s Anatomy Producer Spoke Out Against The Recent Main Castmembers False Layoff Speculation
Hey, “Grey’s Anatomy” fans. We’re back at you with some more very interesting news about the recent layoffs of main castmembers Jessica Capshaw aka Arizona Robbins and Sarah Drew aka April Kepner. As we previously reported, the show let these two ladies go due to “creative reasons.”
The show is claiming that it was time for their storylines to end. Shortly after that, the folks over at Deadline.com ran an article about the layoff. They speculated that it might have something to do with the show deciding to give the main star Ellen Pompeo aka Meredith Grey a major raise. She’s reportedly getting paid a whopping $10 million dollars a season for seasons 15 and 16 if they get renewed by ABC.
ABC currently has not renewed them yet, but it’s highly probable they will since Grey’s Anatomy is one of their highest rated TV shows. Anyways, the Deadline.com article tried to speculate that maybe the show needed to cut poor Jessica and Sarah out of the show to pay Ellen all that cash.
These speculations apparently infuriated the show’s main showrunner/producer Krista Vernoff. She got so ticked off by it that she decided to hit up her official Twitter account to give Deadline.com a freaking piece of her mind!
She posted a photo letter since Twitter only allows you to write 140 letters or something like that. In Krista’s Twitter letter, she wrote, “The suggestion in the Deadline article that our cast changes are in any way related to Ellen Pompeo’s salary renegotiation is wrong and hurtful and misguided.
It smacks of an old, broken, patriarchal notion that women must be pitted against each other, and that one woman’s success will be costly to others. Ellen Pompeo has not only advocated passionately for her fellow cast members, she has taken the time to educate women worldwide as to how to advocate for themselves, and that must now be twisted.
The decision to make changes to our cast was a creative one. The only thing as constant on Grey’s Anatomy as Ellen Pompeo is our penchant for reinvention. It is a part of our success and what keeps the show exciting. We love these actresses, and we love these characters,and it felt true and right creatively to wrap up their stories. And that is the whole story.”
So, yeah. As you can see, Krista felt very passionate about this opinion. Maybe Deadline.com will think twice before running a story like that next time. Or may be they just don’t give a F. Who knows?
In related news, Sarah Drew has already gotten herself off the unemployment line by landing a main co-starring spot on one of CBS’ new shows. It’s going to be a remake of that old Cagney & Lacey show. Sarah will be playing the Cagney character. Her co-star Michelle Hurd is going to portray Lacey. So, all of you who are Sarah Drew fans, that’s where you can see her next.
Currently, there’s no word on what Jessica Capshaw will do after this. We’re sure she saved up a ton of cash from her long, nine or ten year stint on Grey’s Anatomy.And of course, we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
Also, you guys can expect to see the next, new episode 16 of this current 14th season this Thursday night, March 22, 2018 at approximately 7 pm central standard time on ABC. The episode is labled, “Caught Somewhere in Time.”
ABC did release a teaser description of it in their press release. It reads like this, “Maggie and Jackson are enjoying spending time together, but he must turn his concentration toward the groundbreaking vaginoplasty surgery he has scheduled with Catherine and Richard. Meanwhile, Meredith and Jo hit a roadblock with their contest submission. So, Jo helps Bailey with an incoming trauma patient who used to be an astronaut.”
