Review : The New ‘Star Trek’ Movie Packed Some Heat

star trek movie poster image

I was never really a fan of the old “Star Trek” movies, and tv shows. I always thought it was kind of dull and boring, but man this new remake erased all of that. It really came with some heat and incredible action.

In the plot, it traced back to when George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth), the father of the Future Captain James T. Kirk would save 800 or so people from an enemy attack when he became captain of the Starship Enterprise for about 13 seconds before meeting his demise. Then it skips ahead to a rebellious, young James Kirk doing things like driving a car off a cliff, getting into a fight in a bar,and just being a smart alecky menace. He eventually takes up the challenge of Captain Christopher Pike to join the starship academy where he has his first run in with Spock when he cheats on Spock’s captain simulator test.

The two would battle back in forth while on a routine Starship Enterprise mission turned dangerous Read more »

Possible ‘X-Men’ Sequels and Spinoffs in The Works

With the opening, weekend box office success of “X-Men Origins : Wolverine”, there is no doubt that there will be at least a sequel or two. But also there are more spinoffs in the works for this franchise. The first and most likely one to date, which I already knew about since I reported on it a couple of months ago is “X-Men Origins : Magneto” which will trace back to the early years of Eric Lensherr and Charles Xavier ,and how they eventually become enemies after being friends at first. This particular spinoff has actually been waiting in the wings for some time now. The writer / director , David Goyle said it’s release would be contingent on the success of the “Wolverine” film so I’m pretty sure it’s going to get green lighted. Read more »

‘Ghost Of Girlfriends Past’ Movie Review

While I’m not usually a fan of Romantic Comedies, I do occasionally like to go see them when I know they’re going to be more funny than romantic. This film was just that in every sense of the word as Matthew McConaughey plays the very funny character of Connor Mead who is a famous, womanizing photographer. In the beginning of this film, we see Connor Mead photographing one of the models who is none other than the sexy singer, Christine Milian. He ends up making out with her while he breaks up with three other girls he was dating at the same time on a conference call. It was very funny stuff. He is then reminded by his assistant that he is supposed to be the best man at his brother’s wedding.

Bitter at the whole idea of marriage, Connor doesn’t provide a very positive presence at his brother’s house. Read more »

‘X-Men Origins : Wolverine’ Movie Review

This movie was absolutely excellent, and totally rocked as it went back in time to the beginnings of Logan (Hugh Jackman) better known as “Wolverine”. We also got to see the origins of his brother,Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber) known as, “Sabretooth”. It showed that Logan goes from a sickly child one moment to a revengeful killer the next. Victor likes it, as he realizes that his “always sick little brother” is a mutant just like him. So they run off together to fight in wars while servicing in the military. But then Victor starts to fall off the wagon a little bit. He starts attacking civilians, and some of his own team members. Logan who’s vowed to stand by his brother gets taken down with him and thrown in prison.

This is when the movie takes a turning point as Scientist, William Stryker (Danny Huston) comes onto the scene. Read more »

‘Dragonball : Evolution’ Movie Review

In this action packed film, Justin Chatwin plays Goku who is a martial arts master trained by his Grandpa Gohan (Randall Duk Kim). However, he’s bullied at school because he made a promise to his Grandpa that he would never fight anyone. While, not the most important part of the movie, it is entertaining to see the creative reasoning he uses to overcome the details of that promise to eventually kick those bullie’s butts. I just love that kinda stuff. Continuing on, his grandpa gives him one of the sacred seven “Dragonballs” as an 18th birthday present. He also teaches Goku to never forget who he is which turns out to be a very important piece of advice in the movie.

Lord Piccolo played by “Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s” James Martsters returns from banishment to reclaim the seven “Dragonballs”. Read more »

In Obsessed Derek (Idris Elba) is a successful asset manager, married to Sharon (Beyonce Knowles),and has a little boy with her. One day he meets a new temp at work named Lisa (Ali Carter) on an elevator, and this is the beginning of of a downhill spiral for Derek as he’s just met a crazy lady. The downhill spiral is slow mind you,but definitely sure. She right off the bat, starts to play the game with the laughing, flirting, and asking around the office about Derek. Even though she knows he’s married it doesn’t stop her from taking it up a notch.

In one scene, she acts like she’s unhappy over a break up with an imaginary boyfriend to play on the sympathies of Derek. Then at the annual company Christmas party, is when she really uncomfortably unleashes her unhealthy attraction for him by pinning him up against a stall in the men’s restroom. Read more »

“Fighting” starring Channing Tatum as Shawn McArthur is about a young kid who hustles on the streets of New York to make a quick buck, and has a messed up past between him ,his father, and a old wrestling teammate named,Evan Hailey(Brian White). Channing’s character gets his merchandise and money stolen while hustling, but not without a fight which captures the eye of small time fight promoter, Harvey Boarden (Terrence Howard).

Harvey eventually catches back up with Shawn McArthur, and talks him into fighting his first fight for $5,000. He goes on to win which sets up a tentative business relationship between the two. Shawn fights some tough competitors in the movie, and interestingly enough finds a way to win against this one well trained Asian guy who apparently seemed way better than him at first which sort of got me riled up. But his toughest competitor is yet to come with his old wrestling teammate, Evan Haley Read more »

Jason Statham is back as hitman, Chev Chelios, but this time he takes huge fall from a very, very high place. A whole bunch of Asian dudes take him to a private hospital, and take his heart out so they can transplant it into some old Asian guy. They give Chev a fake inferior artificial heart that runs on a four or five bar battery pack. Then when that goes out, it has a one hour internal backup battery. After that, it’s lights out for Chev. But I gotta tell you he makes the most out of this little fake heart because there’s another option. If he can somehow keep himself electrically charged then that heart won’t go out on him. this one fact sets the stage for a pretty exciting movie.

ashton kutcher image

On late Thursday, Ashton Kutcher, the former “That 70’s Show” actor and former host of MTV’s “Punk’d” edged out the giant news media company, CNN to be the first to get a million followers on “Twitter”. I knew someone would have a contest like this. It’s like when Myspace first started to become really popular, and everyone would brag about how many friends they had. Anyways, he was able to win the coveted million, Twitter, follower crown by becoming the ringleader of a frenetic digital circus act which included Larry King, video game maker Electronic Arts Inc., a 25 year old Web developer from London, and a ton of online participants.

The winner of the contest agreed to donate 10,000 mosquito nets to charity for World Malaria Day on April 25,2009. On Wednesday. Kutcher had like 50,000 fewer visitors than CNN. Read more »
