Top Critics Gave New ‘Marmaduke’ Movie Lousy,Bad Reviews
Top critics gave new ‘Marmaduke’ movie lousy, bad reviews. 20th Century Fox unleashed their new doggy flick “Marmaduke” on us today, and it didn’t really impress the critics to much. They gave Cs,Ds,and one big fat F. It stars: Owen Wilson, Lee Pace, Judy Greer, William H. Macy, Steve Coogan, Sam Elliott, Fergie, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Emma Stone, Kiefer Sutherland, and Marlon Wayans.
Roger Ebert over at the Chicago Sun-Times gave it a a C. He said, “If you like the comic strip, now in its 56th year, maybe you’ll like it, maybe not. Marmaduke’s personality isn’t nearly as engaging as Garfield’s. Then again, if personality is what you’re in the market for, maybe you shouldn’t be considering a lip-synched talking animal comedy in the first place.”
Kyle Smith from the New York Post gave it a C. He stated, “Like “Sex and the City 2,” Marmaduke features well-coifed bitches in heat, nonstop puns and its very own Mr. Big. Unlike “SATC 2,” this one is harmless and, on occasion, mildly witty.”
Joe Leydon over at Variety gave it a C-. He said, “With extended closing credits, Marmaduke clocks in at 88 minutes and feels longer.” Stephen Holden from the New York Times gave it another C-. He said, “These cinematic feats are accomplished with meat-cleaver editing and awkward, jittery computer-generated imagery. The well-cast voices for the expressionless animals are at least good for a few smirks.”
Glenn Whip from the Los Angeles Times gave it a D-. He said, “Wilson’s amiable vocal work keeps the predictability from becoming too grating.” Luke Sader at the Hollywood Reporter gave it a D- as well. He said, “One thing Marmaduke does have in common with the earlier Disney titles is a blessed scarcity of crass bodily-function gags that often pass as family comedy.”
Joe Neumaier at the New York Daily News gave it a D-. He said, “If Marmaduke achieves anything, it’s that it makes this past spring’s “Furry Vengeance” look like a masterpiece by comparison.”
Michael O’Sullivan at the Washington Post gave it a D-. He stated, “The movie itself is already like one long commercial.” Finally, Wesley Morris at the Boston Globe gave it a big fat F rating. He said, “We’ve just been treated like a fire hydrant.” “Marmaduke” movie is in theaters now. Get your “Marmaduke” movie tickets at Fandango by Clicking Here.
