6 Shocking ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Behind The Scenes Secrets Revealed
Hey, Pretty Little liars fans. We’ve got a special report for you guys today in regards to the old Pretty Little Liars show. It turns out that there were some pretty major secrets that went on behind the scenes that most of you may not have been aware of. We’re going to go over six of them in this particular article.
These behind-the-scenes secret come from the folks over at Screenrant.com. The first behind-the-scenes secret was that actress Sasha Pieterse who plays character Alison DiLaurentis was actually only 12 years old when she landed her Pretty Little Liars role. In addition to that, she originally auditioned to play the role of Hanna Marin which Ashley Benson ended up doing.
The second big secret was that Australian actress Tammin Sursok who played character Jenna Marshall was secretly pregnant during the 4th season of Pretty Little Liars. They cleverly hid her pregnancy with big bags and loosely fit clothing. She got pregnant in 2013 and delivered sometime in 2014. It was a baby girl who she named “Phoenix.”
The third big, behind-the-scenes secret was that actor Ian Harding who played character Ezra Fitz and actress Troian Bellisario who played character Spencer Hastings had a pretty big fight on set! It was around the time they first met. Troian revealed in an interview that Ian really annoyed the hell out of her.
She stated to “Good Morning America, “I got into a huge fight with Ian. He annoyed me.” They argued over a discussion about evolution. Troian made a comment about it, and Ian just didn’t agree with it at all. However, they did eventually get over it which was obviously good for the show.
The fourth big, behind-the-scenes secret is that former High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale was hit up by the Pretty Little Liars producers to play one of the lead roles. At the time, “High School Musical” wasn’t that old and Ashley was still very much a hot commodity. Ashley decided to turn down the Pretty Little Liars job for another gig with The CW. It was called “Hellcats” which was basically the TV version of “Bring It On,” following competitive cheerleading.
Unfortunately for Ashley, “Hellcats” was canceled after its first season, and we all know that Pretty Little Liars went on to be a huge hit that lasted for seven seasons. Oh well. That’s how it goes sometimes.
The fifth big, behind-the-scenes secret is that actor Keegan Allen’s Toby Cavanaugh character was supposed to actually get killed off in the first season, leaving Keegan unemployed! They were totally planning to straight up kill Toby in the sixth episode of season 1. The reason for this was because in the books, Toby returned to Rosewood after being away at school and found out Alison had gone missing.
He and Emily hit it off, but he said he’s glad Alison is gone because she tormented him years before. Emily took that as meaning he is “A” and that he killed Ali and wanted to get away from him. This put too much stress on Toby, and ended up committing suicide by a drug overdose in the woods.
So, what changed the producer’s minds? Apparently, you guys. The fans did. You guys loved Toby so much that the producers decided not to kill him off for literally the entire run of the series. So, that was definitely good for Keegan Allen and his wallet.
The sixth big, behind-the-scenes secret is that Sasha Pieterse aka Alison DiLaurentis absolutely hated wearing her iconic, yellow fringe, top outfit. She apparently had to wear it in a ton of scenes, and Sasha just literally wanted to burn it out of existence!
She also revealed that she had about 13 of them because it kept getting dirty from certain scenes, and she just really wanted to destroy all 13 of them. She told CBS’ “The Talk” cast, “I personally hate that shirt and have from the beginning. And because I got buried in it, and it got dirty and blood on it in so many scenes, there are 13 copies of that shirt. I’d like to take all of them and burn them. Just ruin it.”
