Survivor April 5, 2023 Voted Off Josh Wilder (Recap)
Hey, “Survivor” fans. Tonight, April 5, 2023, another new episode of Survivor season 44 did indeed hit the air, and we saw another unlucky contestant get the shaft at the very end. Tonight’s new episode kicked off with the aftermath of the Tika tribe learning they didn’t have to have a tribal council meeting in the last episode because Matthew Mayle quit due to a shoulder injury.
Josh told the private cams, “I’m glad we didn’t go to tribal council because I think I definitely would’ve gotten voted off. Carolyn and Yam Yam are a mess, and I’m ready to get off this island.”
After that, all the tribes got a note saying, “The game is about to change. Get ready for your new home.” When everyone joined up, Kane said he was nervous about what’s next. Josh told Jaime he has a fake idol. Then, Jaime told Frannie about it, and Frannie said she wants to get rid of Josh because she’s concerned about what he can do in the game.
Yam Yam told the private cams, “I feel very much alone. So, I need to start having a lot of conversations with people.” Matt B told Yam Yam that they’re looking to get Josh out. Yam Yam told the private cams he definitely has a problem with Josh because he kept telling everyone about the tribal council meeting where Yam Yam tried to get Josh out, and he’s worried that’s giving him a bad perception with everyone. However, Matt B assured Yam Yam that no one thinks badly of him.
Carolyn talked with Carson. He told her she needs to reconnect with Yam Yam. Carson eventually got Carolyn and Yam Yam together and pitched continuing to play with them. It seemed to be a positive conversation. Matt B and Frannie kept hanging out a lot, and they said they needed to dial it back a bit to not look so suspicious. However, I think they’re very well past that point right now.
Next, host Jeff Probst showed up with the next, big challenge. This one was the “Earn To Merge” challenge. They needed to win this one to guarantee their spot in the merge. The remaining 12 contestants were split up into two teams of 6. The purple team consisted of: Matt B, Frannie, Carson, Carolyn, Jaime and Brandon. The red team consisted of: Kane, Josh, Yam Yam, Danny, Heidi and Lauren.
During this challenge, the two teams had to dig up a heavy boulder. Then, roll it through some obstacles. Climb on top of the boulder to free up some keys. Climb up a wall. Use the keys to unlock puzzle pieces and assemble a tree puzzle for the win.
The Purple team of: Matt B, Frannie, Carson, Carolyn, Jaime and Brandon ended up winning this challenge for immunity and a guaranteed spot in the merge. Meanwhile, the losing team of: Kane, Josh, Yam Yam, Danny, Heidi and Lauren had to head to a tribal council meeting to see which one of them were getting voted off. Also, all 12 people voted during this tribal council meeting, but only the 6 people who lost the challenge were eligible to be voted off.
The winning team of: Matt B, Frannie, Carson, Carolyn, Jaime and Brandon got to enjoy a merge meal for their troubles. Josh told Heidi and Lauren he wanted to get Yam Yam out. They agreed in that particular moment. However, Heidi told the private cams that Josh might actually be the best one to go for her game.
At the merge feast with Matt B, Frannie, Carson, Carolyn, Jaime and Brandon, they brought up Josh’s name as a target, but they were worried he had an immunity idol. Carolyn tried to tell them that Josh’s idol is fake, but they were still worried he might have something that could save him. So, they pitched out Kane’s name as back up plan
When everyone came back, they told the rest they were looking to get Josh out with Kane as a back up in case Josh has an idol. Frannie told Josh that Kane’s name came up. So, he tried to campaign to Yam Yam to vote out Kane. However, Yam Yam told the private cams, “I like Kane. I don’t want to vote him out. However, I’m not totally ruling out working with Josh.
Carson told Kane that his name was being pitched as a target in case Josh has an idol, but they want to vote out Josh. In response, Kane ran to Brandon to campaign about voting off Yam Yam. Brandon told Carson it was a bad move to tell Kane his name came up. Meanwhile, Yam Yam’s name continued to circulate as a possible target due to Kane’s panicking and campaigning.
Finally, at the tribal council meeting, they did some general game talk before casting their votes. Kane ended up getting 1 vote, Yam Yam received 3 votes, and Brandon got a whopping 6 votes. So, with the 6 votes, it was the end of the line for Josh. He made a calm exit and said, “Bye, guys” on the way out.
Josh told the private cams, “I’m devastated. I’m sad. I really wanted to make it to the merge. I guess they thought I was a threat. I did everything I could in my power.” How do you guys feel about Josh Wilder getting voted off Survivor season 44 in tonight’s episode? Let us know in the comments section.
