Yellowstone Kevin Costner Aka John Dutton Not Returning For Season 5 Second Half
Hey, “Yellowstone” fans. Most of you may already know this. For those of you who don’t, it has been confirmed by Kevin Costner himself that he is not going to reprise his John Dutton character for the second half of Yellowstone’s current and final season 5.
Back on June 20, 2024, Kevin hit up his official Twitter account to tell everyone that he is definitely not returning to finish up the second half of Yellowstone season 5 via a video message.
In it, he stated, “I want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all the things that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that beloved series that I love, that I know you love, I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5B or into the future.
It was something that really changed me. I loved it, and I know you loved it. I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning, and I love the relationship we’ve been able to develop, and I’ll see you at the movies.”
Kevin talked with the folks over at Deadline.com about what really happened during the negotiations for the final seasons or season of Yellowstone. Apparently, Kevin originally signed on to do seasons five, six and seven. Yep, Paramount was actually planning to do even more seasons than just the 5 that were now stuck with.
After two or three months, Paramount came back to Kevin with a different contract. They had switched it from seasons six and seven to the 5A and 5b and maybe a season six. Kevin kept trying to fit the filming of his new Horizon film into the filming gaps for Yellowstone, but Paramount kept switching it up too much.
Kevin stated, “I made a contract for seasons five, six and seven. In February, after a two- or three-month negotiation, they made another contract. They wanted to redo that one, and instead of seasons six and seven, it was 5A and 5B, and maybe we’ll do six. They weren’t able to make those. Horizon was set in the middle, but Yellowstone was first position. I fit Horizon into the gaps. They just kept moving their gaps.”
So, that was the last straw. Kevin is officially out for the second half of Yellowstone season 5, but we’re assuming that everyone else will still return. As we previously reported, the second half of season 5 is officially scheduled to finally premiere on Sunday night, November 10, 2024 in the 8 pm time slot.
