New Wicked Part 2 Movie To Feature A Time Jump, Total Transformation & More (Spoilers)
Hey, “Wicked Movie” fans. We recently tracked down some new spoiler scoops for the the second part of The Wicked 2-part movie series from the folks over at Today.com. They were able to chat up the director of the film Jon M. Chu.
First off, part 2 of Wicked is now titled, “Wicked for Good.” It’s due to hit theaters on November 21, 2025. The director told them he definitely want to stay true to how the story was told in the Wicked Broadway stage musical. He stated of part 2, “I want to have the sanctity of the show. I love the show. So, to me, that’s first and foremost. It will be the DNA of what it is.”
So, in Act 2 of the stage musical for Wicked, there was a time jump. How long of a time jump is not quite clear. However, they did mention that in the 1995 book by Gregory Maguire, there was about a 5 year time jump.
The Act 2 musical also opens with the song titled, “Thank Goodness,” which establishes that Glinda has now left the Shiz University and has assumed the role of Glinda the Good. Glinda also announced that she and Fiyero are officially engaged.
Today.com also spoke to Bowen Yang, who plays Glinda’s friend Pfannee in the movie. He did confirm that there is a time jump in Wicked part 2 along with some other little details stating, “Right when we pick up, Glinda is in this very front-facing position. Pfannee and Shenshen (Bronwyn James) are at her side still, but a lot is in motion.
The world has literally changed, and the landscape of it is very different. There is this campaign against this one person that they’re like the reason for all the problems in the world. The story is so flexible with how it relates to our real world.”
They also mentioned that there was a love triangle in Act 2 of the musical, featuring none other than Elphaba aka the wicked witch of the West, Prince Fiyero and Glinda. Fiyero helped Elphaba escape and ran off with her, and they eventually professed their love for each other.
They mentioned that in Act 2 of the musical, there was a transformation that occurred, involving Elphaba’s sister Nessarose and Boq. Nessarose became the governor of Munchkinland and ruled it harshly. Her relationship with Boq also took a hit. He stayed with her under duress instead of love.
At one point, Elphaba visited Nessarose, and Nessarose let her know how much she resented her. So, Elphaba casts a spell on Nessarose’s silver shoes, which allowed her to walk. Then, Boq was seen, announcing that he plans to leave and declare his true affections for Glinda.
However, Nessarose tried to throw a wrench in Boq’s plans via Elphaba’s spell book, the Grimmerie, but her spell didn’t quite turn out right. It shrank Boq’s heart. So, Elphaba had to turn Boq into a man made of tin so he could live without a heart. After all of that, Nessarose proclaimed herself to be the Wicked Witch of the East.
Marissa Bode who played character Nessarose in the movie told Today.com that Nessarose will definitely have a bigger role in Wicked part 2. Her character has an almost total change from what we saw at the end of Part 1.
So, it certainly does sound like Wicked part 2 will get even more interesting when it finally arrives in theaters on November 21, 2025
