Filthy Rich Season 1, November 30, 2020 Episode 10 Is The Finale. Season 2 Is Not Happening
Hey, “Filthy Rich” fans. We are back,tonight, with one last article for Filthy Rich, unfortunately. Yep, that’s right, guys. For those of you who never got the memo, this first season of FOX’s drama Filthy Rich will come to an end with tonight’s episode 10 as it is the season and series finale episode.
FOX confirmed it in their episode 10 press release by saying it is the show’s series finale episode. We have heard from a couple of fans who are really disappointed that this show got canceled, and we tried to find a reason why FOX would cancel it.
When we took a look at the show’s LIVE ratings and viewership numbers, it wasn’t really hard to figure out why. It had decent premiere numbers, but those numbers still weren’t that great. Then, after the premiere, the numbers got even worse! A lot worse!
They lost a full 1 million of their LIVE viewers after the premiere episode. Then they lost another half a million LIVE viewers by episode 3! By episode 6, that half a million became another, full, 1 million LIVE viewers lost in a main, primetime spot on FOX.
FOX definitely wasn’t having that. I’m sure they would rather use that primetime spot for some other shows that could do much better in the ratings.
Here’s what the Filthy Rich season 1, LIVE ratings and viewership numbers looked like. It averaged 1.615 million LIVE viewers per episode and a 0.32 ratings score for the 18-49 year old demographics.
The last episode 9, which aired last Monday night, November 23, 2020, drew in only 1.197 million LIVE viewers and a 0.30 ratings score. That’s way, way down from its premiere episode 1, which drew in 3.027 million LIVE viewers and a 0.50 ratings score.
Just to give you an idea how bad that is, the first episode numbers weren’t great, but they were just enough to maybe, possibly garner some consideration for a renewal. So, when they dropped and lost another 2 million LIVE viewers over the course of the season, there was just no way it was getting renewed.
I’ve seen FOX cancel shows that had way better numbers than this, and those cancellations left me baffled. So, there’s just no way that a show with less than 2 million LIVE viewers per episode and such low ratings can survive on a primetime network like FOX. Not even if it were a summer show I don’t think.
That’s just too low. Maybe if it were on one of the cable networks with those same numbers, but definitely not FOX. I’ve seen FOX cancel shows with 4 or 5 million LIVE viewers per episode. They do not mess around. A show needs to bring in some hefty numbers to survive on FOX.
The only time FOX would probably keep a show that under performed is if it’s cheap to produce, but most of these scripted shows usually aren’t that cheap to produce, especially if they have actors like Kim Cattrall in them. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t come cheap.
I’m pretty sure this show would’ve needed to maintain somewhere in the ballpark of around close to 6 million LIVE viewers and a much higher ratings score to get a renewal from FOX.
I feel like Filthy Rich was just a show to help FOX fill in the vacant time slots caused by production shutdowns of all their other hit shows that do way better in the ratings.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m not bashing Filthy Rich as show. I’m sure it was quite entertaining to the fans it acquired, but in terms of the numbers, I would have certainly been surprised to see FOX keep it around because, again, I’ve seen them cancel shows with way better numbers, and it literally left me startled.
With all that said, I feel bad for you guys who loved Filthy Rich. May it rest in piece. On a better note, we’re sure FOX will replace it with something else you might enjoy and also does well in the ratings. I’m sure that’s their goal. So, don’t give up hope.
