The Bachelorette August 9, 2021 Katie Picked Her Final Man In The Finale (Recap)

Hey, Bachelor Nation fans. Tonight, August 9, 2021, the finale episode of The Bachelorette 2021 edition with headliner Katie Thurston did indeed air, and Katie did end up with a ring on her finger when it was all said and done.

Tonight’s episode kicked off with co-hosts Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe LIVE in studio to reveal what went down in the last episode of Katie’s season. Katie was seen telling the private cams, “Michael left. Greg left. All my confidence is destroyed. Greg isn’t somebody I thought would be like this. Everything just all feels disrupted. The love I had for Greg was real. That’s why this is all so heartbreaking.”

After that, Katie was LIVE in studio with Kaitlyn and Tayshia. Katie told them of Greg’s abrupt departure, “I was defeated in that moment. It has you questioning everything. If it’s worth continuing moving forward. In that moment, I thought it was my fault. Greg left. I completely blamed myself. I begged him to stay, and he said it wasn’t good enough. What Greg did was not a man. I don’t know what I’m going to say to him tonight.”

Next, they resumed with the finale episode of Katie’s season. Katie told the private cams, “I’ve been through a lot. It’s hard to continue to be here because I’m still trying to process what happened. I need someone who’s going to trust me and fight for me.”

Blake and Justin were talking about Greg. Blake said, “I saw Greg, but he didn’t want to talk about anything.” Tayshia and Kaitlyn showed up to tell Blake and Justin, “Greg has left. Katie is emotionally devastated and struggling. The good news is that your journeys with Katie will continue. You’ll get to spend quality time with Katie.”

Justin and Blake said, they hope Katie is in a good enough place to continue. Next, Katie and Blake went on their 1 on 1, overnight date. During it, Katie told Blake about Michael leaving to be with his son and about Greg leaving abruptly.

Katie said, “It was very shocking when Greg left, especially since I saw him staying for Fantasy Suites and even possibly meeting my family. There’s a part of me that wanted to quit. I wanted to let you know everything that’s been happening. This week was just kind of this huge shift in a lot of things.” Blake said, “That is a lot.” After that, they started kissing.

Blake told the private cams, “Katie’s temporary desire to quit over Greg caught me off guard. I probably underestimated the amount that she cared or thought about him. That was the first time where I was completely off as to where I thought her head was at. I’m especially worried because I love Katie a lot and if she can’t match that level of feeling, then there’s no point in getting engaged.”

During the second half of Blake and Katie’s 1 on 1 date, Blake told Katie, “I tried to express that I love you in ways of affection, and I feel like I show you in other ways. Love comes with feelings. During our Hometowns date at the hockey game when you yelled, ‘Go America! That was when I said to myself, ‘F#%ck, I love her.’ I love you, and I’m really f#%cking excited about life with you.” Katie told Blake, “I love you.” After that, they eventually chose to go to the Fantasy Suite.

Blake and Katie woke up in the morning in the fantasy suite kissing. Blake said, “It feels good to tell you I love you.” Katie said, “Me too.” They had breakfast in bed. Katie told the private cams, “Me and Blake want to walk away together at the end of this.” Katie told Blake, “This is the happiest I’ve been in a along time.” Blake said, “Me too. I love you.” Katie said, “I love you too.” Katie told the private cams of her time with Blake, “It’s the best.”

Next, Katie was seen telling Kaitlyn about her experience with Blake, and she said “This is the best day of my life. Telling Blake I love him was a huge deal for me. My heart officially belongs to Blake.” Kaitlyn said, “But, Justin’s still here.”

From there, we got footage of Katie telling Justin, “The Greg situation almost made me quit, but I decided to continue and see things through to the end. I was looking forward to today. However, I did have my overnight with Blake, and I did tell him, “I’m falling in love with him.

That is something I can only say to one person. You are someone I wanted to explore things with, but given the situation with Blake, I don’t think it would make sense to continue things with you. That’s where I’m at.”

Justin said, “This is not a fun place to be in, but..” Katie said, “You are such a great man. I know you would be such a great husband and father. I didn’t make this decision lightly. I care about you so much. So, I just couldn’t keep going. I just couldn’t.” Justin said, “I hope Blake knows what a he has in you and doesn’t take you for granted.”

Next, Justin was LIVE in studio with Tayshia and Kaitlyn. They asked him, “Do you truly feel like Katie gave you a fair shot?” Justin said, “No.” Then, Katie came out to talk with Justin. Justin told Katie, “I felt like maybe I was there by default after watching everything back.”

Katie said, “It wasn’t until my date with Blake that I decided this is it. I want you to know you were definitely there for a reason.” Justin said, “I appreciate that. You got me to open up, and it made me a better person. I thank you for that.” Katie said, “It melts my heart to hear that, and I’m so happy for you.” They also took a look back at Justin’s many faces of shock during the season . It was super funny.

Next, we got footage of Blake going to meet Katie’s family. Katie greeted Blake with a hug and kiss and told him to not be nervous. Blake met Katie’s mother Rhonda Lee and aunt Lindsey. During the intro conversation, Blake told them he’s currently unemployed, but he’s planning to go work in Africa part time. That seemed really strange. Rhonda and Lindsey told the private cams,”I do not think they realize the logistics of their situation.”

Blake talked 1 on 1 with Lindsey. Blake told Lindsey,”Me and Katie are just very open. She understands me.” Lindsey told Blake, “You need to be very secure around us. You’re here because we want you here, not because we need you here.” Lindsey asked Blake, “What will you do if your marriage hits a rough patch?” Blake said, “We’ll do whatever we can to fix things.” Lindsey said, “Yeah, that’s not how it works.” Blake told the private cams of Lindsey, “It just seemed like nothing I was saying was the right answer she was looking for.”

Katie talked with Lindsey. Lindsey wasn’t to keen on Katie saying she might travel to Canada and Africa to see Blake. Blake talked with Rhonda. Blake told Rhonda, “I’d love to move in with Katie right away, but I also know we have a lot of big questions about where we’re going to live to sort out.” Rhonda told the private cams, “Katie seems so happy, and that’s all that matters to a parent.”

Afterwards, Blake told the private cams, “The intent coming in here was to propose and get engaged, but there’s a difference between talking about it and doing it. There’s just a lot that I need to take in to consideration. I’m just stressed out.”

Next, Katie and Blake took a little trip out to a desert area to see an Energy Healer named Felicia. She told them that there’s an annual New Mexican tradition called, The burning of Zozobra. It involves writing down your fears, insecurities, regrets, etc.

Blake and Katie wrote down all of their fears and insecurities. Then they read them off to each other. When they were done, they kissed. Blake told the private cams, “What if I’m not ready to propose. She’ll be devastated. My head just feels like scrambled eggs. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to do this.”

At one point, Tayshia told Blake, “Katie is ready to get engaged. So, if you’re having doubts. If you’re still struggling, you need to let her go.” Blake told the private cams, “I just want to breathe, and I feel like I can’t.”

Next, they showed the final day of Katie’s season. Katie told the private cams, “I have zero doubts that I will leave here with a ring on my finger. Meeting Blake and falling in love with him is a love I never had before. I don’t know where Blake’s head is at, and I truly don’t know what his decision is going to be. My biggest fear is walking away from this alone.”

Blake finally arrived. Katie told Blake, “You look so good. Love shows up when it’s meant to. You showed up at the right time. You have made me the happiest woman alive. I want to be your constant. I can’t wait for our adventure to begin.”

Blake said, “I know how great a wife you’re gonna be. How great a mother you’re gonna be, but I can’t give you what you came her for because you deserve a lot more. I’ll be here to support you in everything moving forward. With that being said, Katie will you marry me?

Katie shouted, “Yes! Then, they hugged and kissed. Katie also said, “Blake will you accept this rose.” He, of course, said “yes.” Blake said of Katie, “This was the piece I was missing that is going to make my life better. That’s what I’m so excited about.” Then, Katie and Blake road off on horses to cap it off.

After all of that, they went back to LIVE in studio for the “After The Final Rose” special. Greg showed up to answer questions. He told Tayshia and Kaitlyn, “I felt like I was giving Katie my everything, and I felt like I wasn’t getting anything back. I wanted to get back on the same page with Katie, and I just felt a disconnect. I wouldn’t have done anything differently. I’m grateful for her no matter what.”

Next, Katie came out, and she was livid at Greg. She told Greg, “I never felt you intended to get engaged! I gave you validation every single week! For you to do a 180, I think you were looking for an opportunity to escape! Greg said, “I don’t know why you would think that.”

Katie said, “You spoke down to me. I don’t think you know what love is! That was the time I needed you the most, and you ran away! You got in acting practice at my expense.”

Greg said, “Believe me, I’m no Meryl Streep.” Katie said, “What I’ve been hearing is that Greg is not as shy as he came off on the show. He’s really very confident. He takes acting classes. You’re a liar! You don’t know what love is!” Greg said, “I’m sorry if you felt like I was talking down to you in that moment.” Katie said, “You gaslighted me, meaning you made me feel like it was my fault!”

Greg said, “I’m sorry for the way things ended between us. I’m sorry for making you feel like that. I wish I could go back and change the way I communicated to you. My head was just all over the place.” Katie said, “I did everything I could to get you to stay, and you just looked down on me and said, “I deserve more! It feels shady! It feels like you were never there for me!”

Greg said, “I’m sorry that you’ve questioned my integrity on the show. I thought you were playing the Bachelorette role with me instead of just being Katie.” Katie said, “I just feel like if you really loved me, that one moment wouldn’t have pushed you away. You would have stayed!”

Greg said, “I emptied my heart out to you, and all I got was a pat on the back. I just wanted something real. If you really loved me, you would’ve chased after me.” Katie said, “You’re right. I didn’t chase after you. You keep saying I was playing the Bachelorette, but I was the Bachelorette, and there were relationships forming. When you left, so did everything I felt for you.”

Next, Blake came out. Katie greeted him with a huge hug and kiss. Katie and Blake said they knew they were in love with each other at Hometowns. Katie said, “We’re so much more already. We’re excited to start our lives together. It was the most romantic thing that Blake took the risk to come on the show so late to fight for me. He fought to be here even when I told him I was considering leaving. I feel so lucky. I just love him so much!”

Katie also thanked Kaitlyn and Tayshia for their support during the season. Katie and Blake ended things by dancing on stage to a song. Then, we got a sneak peek at the new 2021 season of “Bachelor In Paradise,” which premieres next Monday night, August 16, 2021 at approximately 7 pm central standard time on ABC.
