Tough As Nails July 2, 2023 Eliminated Carolina Paredes From Individual Competitions (Recap)
Hey,”Tough As Nails” fans. Tonight, July 2, 2023, CBS served up the very first, premiere episodes 1 and 2 of Tough As Nails season 5, and we got to see the first person to get eliminated from the individual competitions at the very end of it.
The first hour episode kicked off with the usual introduction footage of the new castmambers. Host Phil Keoghan let us know that this season took place in Canada, and allowed Canadians to compete on the show for the very first time. The contestants were also shown a video from Canadian actor Martin Short, welcoming them to Canada.
After all of that, Phil presented the very first challenge to the contestants. The first two contestants to finish this challenge, got to pick the teams for this season. During this challenge, they had cut up individual pieces of metal and load them into a cage container by fitting them through a hole in the cage until the load added up to 500 pounds.
Cheryl ran into some issues with cutting 4 pieces of oversized metal. Carly also had some issues with cutting the metal pieces. It seemed really hard for her to get the hang of it. After everything was completed, Ben emerged as the first one to finish up this challenge, and Paul finished second. So, Ben and Paul got to pick the teams for the Dirty Hands and Savage Crew this season.
Ben was up first with the picks since he finished first: He chose to take the Dirty Hands name and picked: Todd, Kenji, Yesi, Carly and Cheryl to be on his team. Paul got stuck with the Savage Crew name by default, and he picked: Marcus, Akeela, Jessica, Carlina and Dustin to be on his team.
After the teams were selected, Phil presented the first team challenge to the contestants. During it, they had to clean up a tugboat by power washing algae off it and giving it a fresh coat of paint. They also had to clean and dry the tires. The first team to do it correctly, won.
Kenji was selected to be the crew boss for the Dirty Hands team for this challenge. Jessica was chosen to be the crew boss for the Savage Crew team. At one point during the tugboat challenge, Savage Crew ran into an issue with a quality check for cleaning off the algae, but they cleared that up and started applying their paint.
They ended up finishing first for the win to go up 1-0 for the team competitions. The first team to win 5 competitions gets a $60,000 dollar bonus. Savage Crew also won $12,000 for this competition win.
In the second hour, host Phil Keoghan presented another team competition to the contestants. It was a two-part job that required them to fill big bags of soil and small bags of mulch. The goal was to try to correctly fill up as many bags as possible. The team with the most bags filled when time ran out, won.
Cheryl was chosen to be crew boss for Dirty Hands during this competition. Akeela was chosen to be crew boss for the Savage Crew. At one point during this comp, the Savage Crew team ran into issues with quality checks on filling up their mulch bags early on in the comp. Dirty Hands also ran into issues with their large bags of soil not being full enough. However, they did work through that.
When Savage crew switched to filling up the big bags of soil, they ran into a lot more issues with that, which ate away at a lot of their time, but they did seem to get a rhythm going. Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t quite good enough because the Dirty Hands team was able to edge them out to win this competition and tie up the team competition wins 1-1. They also won $12,000 dollars for this win.
Next, the contestants were presented with their first individual competition of this new season 5. In this competition, they were paired up into 6 teams of 2. This comp required the teams of two to drive a special tractor for cutting and collecting rolls of sod. It was done in 3 separate heats.
The pairs of two were: Carly and Yesi, Dustin and Ben, Jessica and Carolina, Paul and Todd, Akeela and Kenji and Cheryl and Marcus. During this comp, a couple of pairs ran into a lot of issues with the sod getting jammed up in the tractor machine. Kenji and Akeela ran into so much trouble that Akeela just started rolling the sod by hand just so they could get at least one pallet filled up.
When it was all over, Phil revealed that Ben and Dustin won this competition and collected a $2,000 dollar prize for their troubles. Unfortunately for Carolina and Jessica, it was revealed that they collected the least amount of sod. So, they had to do the overtime challenge to stay alive in the individual competitions.
In the overtime challenge, Carolina and Jessica had to assemble and install aerators correctly. One part of this challenge required them to take a canoe boat out into the water, but they were purposely given canoes with a couple of holes in them to make things more difficult.
Carolina’s canoe ended up completely sinking. So, she had to swim the rest of the way. Jessica did a better overall job to pull off the win over Carolina. So, poor Carolina Paredes was eliminated from individual competitions in this episode, but she will be sticking around for the team competitions.
Carolina told the private cams, “It’s an honor to be here, and I’m just going to keep working hard to make some money in the team competitions.
