Hey, “20/20” fans. We’re back with some more great news for you guys because the ABC people are serving up another brand new episode of 20/20 tonight, September 13, 2024. This new episode is for the current season 46. It’s the 34th one, and it’s not to be confused with the new season 47 episodes that are scheduled to start up next Friday night, September 20, 2024.

We were able to get an official press release for tonight’s new episode 34 from the ABC folks. So, we will certainly take a look at it for this preview session. Let’s get to it.

Tonight’s new episode 34 is officially titled, “Black Swan Trial.” In tonight’s new episode 34, the 20/20 team will take a deep look at a story about a Florida woman named Ashley Benefield. She was an aspiring ballerina when she met her husband Doug who was a Navy veteran and businessman back in 2016.

They ended up getting married super quick in less than a month after meeting. However, their relationship was very tumultuous and fell apart in three years. Things got so bad that Ashley claims she had to eventually fatally shoot her husband in self defense due to domestic abuse. Doug’s family doesn’t believe the domestic abuse claims and claim she deceived and manipulated Doug.

Ahsley is going to give an exclusive interview about her case and Black Swan trial with Deborah Roberts of the 20/20 team in this episode.

ABC’s official description for tonight’s new episode 34 of 20/20 season 46 reads like this, “In 2016, the once aspiring ballerina Ashley Benefield met her husband Doug, a Navy veteran and businessman, in Palm Beach, Florida. The two began a whirlwind romance and married just 13 days after meeting for the first time. While the couple set out to revolutionize the dance world with the creation of the American National Ballet, their dreams quickly unraveled when adequate funding for the company failed to materialize.

Over the next three years, the couple’s tumultuous relationship would also fall apart, and in September 2020, Ashley shot Doug in her Florida home. She claimed self-defense, alleging years of domestic abuse and invoked Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law. Doug’s family and friends, however, painted a different picture, accusing Ashley of manipulation and deception and refuting the claims of domestic abuse.

The case would draw national attention with Ashley being called a “Black Swan” – some seeing her as a woman who concealed her true nature behind a facade of grace and beauty, ultimately leading to Doug’s untimely death and others seeing her as an alleged victim of domestic violence who was trying to protect herself.

In an exclusive interview, Benefield breaks her silence, sitting down with co-anchor Deborah Roberts to provide shocking details of the events leading up to the shooting and the continued legal battles she faces over Doug’s killing.”

This episode will also feature interviews with: Ashley’s mother, Alicia Byers; Doug’s daughter, Eva Benefield; assistant state attorneys Suzanne O’Donnell and Rebecca Freel; Ashley’s defense attorney, Neil Taylor; former American National Ballet principal dancer Sara Murawski; Doug’s cousin Tommie Benefield; and family attorney Stephanie Murphy.

Again, ABC’s press release confirmed that 20/20 is showing up with another new episode tonight, September 13, 2024 in the 8 pm central standard time slot. This episode will be a 2-hour event. So, expect it to wrap up at 10 pm central standard time.
