Law & Order New Season 26 Is Happening. NBC Renewed It

Tonight, May 14, 2026, NBC is airing the 21st episode of Law & Order’s current season 25, and it will indeed be the finale episode. So, we did track down some intel on whether or not NBC is renewing it for a brand new season 26, and it turns out that they did renew it for a new season 26.

According to the people over at Deadline.com and their sources, NBC delivered the renewal announcement earlier this month back on May 7, 2026. Before that, Law & Order was actually on the bubble and in danger of getting canceled. It just barely survived the brutal cuts.

We’re hearing that the show will have to do some possible budget cuts to keep it cheap enough for NBC to keep it running. Deadline also mentioned that this show could live on past season 26. They didn’t designate it as a final season.

Currently, it’s not yet known when the new season 26 will premiere, or how many episodes it will feature. We’ll have to supply that information at a later date when it becomes available from NBC.

According to the LIVE Nielsen ratings, Law & Order season 25 averaged 3.652 million LIVE viewers per episode, and a 0.24 ratings score for the 18-49 year old demographics.

The most-viewed episode was episode 12 with 4.150 million LIVE viewers. The least-viewed episode was episode 3 with 3.112 million LIVE viewers.

The highest-rated episodes were episodes 9 and 10. They both tied for first place with a 0.29 ratings score. The lowest-rated episode was episode 2 with a 0.12 ratings score.
