According to the people over at Daily Variety plans have been made for Will Smith to return and reprise his character as scientist Robert Neville. The film will again be directed by Francis Lawrence. The prequel will cover the final days before the man made virus plagued the city of New York and left Neville(Will Smith) as the only survivor of mutated monsters.A prequel was the only way to extend this franchise out for a movie that grossed $584 million worldwide for Warner Bros and still keep Will Smith as the lead role since he was killed in the original in an effort to destroy all the mutated victims.There are no set dates for release as it is still in script at this time.
