New Will Smith ‘After Earth’ Movie Delivered Great Plot,Action,Drama & More
New Will Smith ‘After Earth’ movie delivered great plot, action, drama & more. Columbia Pictures (Sony) dropped their new sci-fi/action flick “After Earth” into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and was pleasantly surprised by how good it actually turned out to be. It turned out to be way better than I thought it would be,especially since I’m hearing that it didn’t do too well with box office numbers. But it definitely won me over. It stars father and son tag team: Will Smith and Jaden Smith.
In the new flick, Earth is devastated in an environmental cataclysm, and the human race has to relocate to another planet, called Nova Prime. The Ranger Corps, a peacekeeping organization commanded by General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) supervises the exodus, and comes into conflict with the S’krell, which are alien creatures that intended to conquer Nova Prime. Their secret weapon are the Ursas, which are monsters that can only see a human by sensing their fear, but Cypher learns how to “ghost” himself from the Ursas by completely ridding himself of all his fears. This eventually leads the Ranger Corps to victory.
After that insightful intro, the movie focuses itself on Cypher’s son, Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith), who blames himself for the death of his sister, Senshi (Zoë Kravitz), who was killed by an Ursa. He also fails to make ranger status due to his recklessness, and Cypher views him as a disappointment. Eventually, Kitai’s mother, Faia (Sophie Okonedo), convinces Cypher to take Kitai on his last voyage before retirement.
And this little trip eventually proves to be the ultimate learning and bonding experience for the Cypher and Kitai when their ship get damaged by an asteroid shower ,and has to crash-land on Earth. After all that fall-out, Kitai and Cypher are the only survivors and Cypher is severely injured as he broke both of his legs. Cypher tries to use an emergency beacon to send a distress signal to Nova Prime. However, the one they have, got damaged,so it’s unable to send the signal. That leaves their only hope on Kitai. He has to locate the tail end of their ship and get the other emergency beacon. Unfortunately the tail is a good ways away from the ship as it broke in half.
Kitai is given a weapon, a wrist communicator ,and four oxygen capsules so he can breathe Earth’s air. Cypher warns him to avoid the fauna and flora, consisting mostly of mutant predators, and to be careful with the planet’s thermal shifts. Kitai then sets off to find the tail section ,with Cypher guiding him through the communicator.
However, with all these types of movies, things eventually go wrong, and Kitai eventually loses communication with Cypher. Kitai also breaks two of his oxygen capsules, giving him less time to make it to the tail of the ship. These turn of events, sets up a huge, very suspenseful conclusion, where Kitai eventually locates the tail of the ship as well as the beacon, but has to face his biggest challenge yet when he comes face to face with a dangerous Ursa that broke free when their ship crashed.
Kitai has to learn how to immediately conquer all of his internal fears to allow himself to “ghost” and become invisible to the Ursa,so he can defeat it and retrieve the emergency beacon. Again, I thought the movie was absolutely excellent and even offered up a little lesson about how to conquer fear and so on,and so forth. I was never bored for a second as the plotline was highly intriguing.
I really found myself wanting to see how Kitai would make it out this crazy situation, alive. It was also very inspirational, especially when Cypher saw Kitai overcome his fears. It was great. I gave the movie an excellent A grade. Stay tuned. Follow us on Facebook by Clicking Here. Follow us on Twitter by Clicking Here. Follow us through rss feeds by Clicking Here.
